Getting super pumped for 4 days in noz starting Feb 20, all this fresh snow recently is looking good, hoping for some more before i arrive.
Does anyone have any comment on discount lift tickets for noz? I tried the coupon thread but the replies werent very helpful re:value of having the 1000y lunch included

Check with your accommodation provider, many have discounted tickets. We paid Y4200/adult/day for Noz, no lunch. I could also get a 3 day consecutive for Y11700/adult.

Last week they were building the half pipe. It might be finished by now. Park had 1 very small and 1 small table top.

@vissnz pipe was running yesterday, all up 3 jumps currently - 1 up near the top of the quad, 1 in the section where the boarder cross track has been previously, and 1 larger one at the bottom of the park. Hopefully that makes sense

Quick question, can you buy lift passes with credit cards at Nozawa?

About 10-15cm of fresh snow in the village this morning, but not snowing now. Had a really pleasant walk in light snow down to the onsen earlier. Looks like a fun last day for us.

Snowing in the village now. Perhaps 2cm of wet snow. Imagine more and drier further up. Yesterday was a great day with boot deep powder for the morning shift befor ethe weekend crowds came.

Lightly snowing in the village and it seems it has done so all night. Our first day on the slopes should be fun!

At Haneda now after a few chaotic, but fun, days in Tokyo that made us miss Nozawa's more laid back charms.

We had a great week, but various injury niggles that stopped us exploring the whole mountain makes us feel like we have unfinished business. I've got a feeling we'll be back.

Did you know the cheapest way to get to snow monkey park from Nozawa (if you need to be back to Nozawa)?
The way is to get SNOW AREA CONNECT PASS for 1 day (adult/2,500 yen). This pass is not included the addmission of the monkey park but still reasonable. The pass is available at information center across Chuo Terminal.
Child fee is half price of adult. Also reasonable for to go to Nagano (if you need to return Nozawa.) :)

Hi all, just dropping a note here. I've been in Nozawa for 2 months and have met some incredible people from all over the world. The town is very small so it was a struggle to be patient before the snow came but since then, the place has really come alive. I've been working at Asahiya Ryokan every night and hit the slopes every day. I've got 2 weeks left here before I hit Tokyo up for a week on my way back to Adelaide. I really want to come back next season because the people, food and culture have made my stay something to remember! CJ

Arrived in Nozawa today, pumped up for my first day on hill after watching that snow all afternoon! Quick question for the locals; my wife has her birthday while we're here and I'd like to organise a splash out meal for the occasion. Where's the best spot for a great kaiseki here?

    Hi All,
Thinking about staying at a place that is close to the bottom of the Shinyu Pair Lift.

    Pros/cons of this area?

How about Fubuki the other side of the river next to Shin-yu pair chairlift stop? The landlady is from Korea and she can speak Japanese fluently. English? She said that she needed to practice more. They accept international guests. About Shin-yu pair some accommodation doesn't accept international guest since language barrier.

    Hi
sorry if this has been covered. I'm going to Nozawa Onsen in a couple of weeks for the first time. Is it true that there is only one ATM in the village? Do most restaurants take credit card or will it be frequent visits to the ATM? Thanks in advance

Yep only 1 at the post office. Cash is king. Most of the eating venues don't take cards.

There are quite a few ATMs in Nozawa. But only the Post Office ATM will work with your card.

And whatever you do, don't change money on Japan (airport or bank), because the Aussie banks will look like angels by comparison

We also live outside a capital city and just used our Citibank card to get cash at the airport ATMs in Tokyo, and then topped up at the Nozawa post office - longest queue was one person in front of us, ATM has english prompts available. Out of seven dinners, we could use the card twice, but getting cash in Nozawa was completely drama free.

You can use travelex online and lock in a rate then pick up at the airport (not cairns)
I have always used a comm bank travel card for additional cash. Also good to note there is a 100,000 ¥ limit per day to draw from the atm.

Cheers, booked in for Monday. Went with the Schneider course though.

Also, just wanted to say that I've ridden past your place many times on the way down to Hikage station in the last few days and it looks amazing!

Packing for trip to Japan, arriving Nozawa Onsen this coming Saturday. Everyone be aware that I have just replaced my powder boards with all mountain skis in my ski bag thus ensuring non-stop dumpage probably from Monday onwards. You can thank me later.

Anyone with prior experience be able to say how much damage the big rain is likely to do this weekend at Nozawa Onsen? I've been skiing a few times and had some rain but nothing like what is forecast. Will this just stuff the snowpack or what?

Skiable? Yes. Memorable? No. Available fun? Certainly. When life throws you lemons, make margaritas.... which, like nozawas off piste this season, are either completely unavailable or terrible. Still, just got back, had a great time.

Likewise. A combination of knackering my ankle, and skiing with my kids who were first time on snow meant sticking to the easy stuff. Good times were still had, and the village charmed us all as first time visitors. It's actually really encouraging to know that Nozawa is usually better still, because we had a blast in a bad year.

40cm last night is making me hopeful for my arrival on the 20th.
Can anyone currently at noz comment on the difference the overnight snow has made?

IMO . If you are considering going to Nozawa for your holiday. Consider a hire car.
There are oodles of resorts close that you could slay.
Even though I know I know the village charm etc... you don't have to give up your accomodation booking...
However a car will give you the flexibility .
