Anyone know if there is an ATM in Nozawa?? I've got a mate who can't organise himself.
What about in Ueno around the train stations JR and Keisei??

    Ueno, any 7/11.
    Nozawa.
Across the road from the main bus stop (Chou) next to the tourist info centre.. Look for the red and white sign.. It charges a fee, like Y200. Or as above at the post office

Thinking of coming to nozawa from 25th to 28th (3 nights).
Anyone able to recommend some cheap ok accomodation for wife and myself ?

And is it worth just getting the shiga to nozawa transfer with Nagano shuttle ?

For convenience sake, maybe. You can sort public transfer easy enough.

Accomm there sees quite tight this weekend. Not sure why.

5cm overnight with sun and cloud al day. Great snow quality up top, but corn down lower. Temps from -8 to +4, depending on time and location. Quiet on the hill generally

Just got back from Nozawa skied there 8-10th. My new favourite resort!
On the first day we got up the gondola early to see wall to wall untracked snow that had fallen on the 7th and overnight. This also brought a crowd who tracked it all up by the early afternoon. I assume they were resident expats because they were all gone by Thursday
The 'self responsibility' zones were very welcome after 5 days at Hakuba. Even better than Hanazono sidecountry in 2014.
I think we were the only telemark skiers on the mountain.
I think I'd go in Feb next time, March is too high a risk of no fresh snow and I can put up with booking restaurants a day ahead.
Walking the village in the evening was a highlight. Missed the opportunity to onsen with the locals, will try again next time.
All logistics were efficient and worry free, just get there a bit ahead of time. Like Hakuba, full busses depart early. I took all my own gear. Would like to go up via Shinkansen one day.
Must congratulate all the Aussies we saw, all well behaved and polite, keep up the good work.

How did you miss the opportunity to onsen? Did you not wash for 3 days?

Any more information on those? Most people who mention side country or the like in a Nozowa thread are usually hung out to dry.

The signs were worded to the effect

    No skiing past here
    Self responsibility area.

I should have taken a photo to post on here. All OOB was well marked and roped. Areas that were self responsibility were not roped but the positioning of any signage was blatant and could not be missed. All the treed area of Mt.Kenashi was sign posted this way, except the marked and groomed pistes, which of course were open for business with ski patrol coverage.

There was some changes this year. You can now go and tell patrol/waiver, you are going oob and you can go as long as you accept the responsibility

There was one in our Hotel ;)
We were too sore to go any further, it's amazing what a soak in hot water does for tired legs, significantly reduces late onset muscle soreness.

They haven't got to me yet. :(
I think it's common knowledge locally given the post dump influx.

I dropped my iphone on my last run, last day in Nozawa (last saturday). Does anyone how likely it will be found once the snow starts to melt? Findmyiphone's last gps location put it at Utopia A run which is where I suspect it lost (I used it halfway down Utopia A and discovered it missing at the bottom). My worry is that the run is less popular and therefore noone sees it when it shows up.

Quite bummed about the entire week's of Japan photos that were on it.

I would be confident it will be found if it was lost on a course / run.
When, and the condition it is in, is the problematic part.
    Good luck

Check with management, good chance it would be picked up and handed in. Gotta love Japan

I'm sure I heard an announcement over their PA that an iPhone had been handed in and to go to one of the lift stations.

I reported it to the Hikage information centre so I don't think it has been found yet, at least they haven't contacted me yet. I can also track that it hasn't been online since.

    > Re: groomers

Dropped it on the un-groomed section of Utopia so might survive not getting groomed? Here's the gps co-ordinates from Findmyiphone. Google maps

Also reported it to the police so I can claim it with insurance but not sure if that will go through since the police couldn't give me a copy of the report. Anyone have luck with this?

iPhones are always being handed in, no one wants them :D

Jokes aside, I'm on the work one now:(
Those PA systems get used for just about everything, including naughty guests that forget to return their room keys. They get the privelidge of being named and shamed across the the whole mountain.

Skied Nozawa from February 13 -15th. Monday 13th was a biggish powder day 20 -30cm (?) and got fresh top ups for the 14/15th. Had a great time and with a good base started to see the full potential of the resort. I was there the year before when there was no base to speak of and had fun but a bit disappointing. Different story this year, amazing skiing everywhere and barely scratched the surface. If I come back again, I would get a guide and do the back bowls, after all the warnings on this board and with a patroller losing their life across the valley at Tongari Onsen played it pretty safe most of the time. Stayed at Nozawa Utopia which is a traditional ryokan very central to town and the Hikage gondola. Beautiful people run the place, great hospitality and incredible Japanese breakfasts, would recommend. Nozawa is very busy but still absolutely charming, love the village and it hasn't been destroyed by baka gaijin totally yet.

    Hello All
been to Japan 3 times now and just cant get enough of the culture, people, food and Powder. Each time has been a short 2 week stint made up with a city side trip for 5 days and the rest on the snow.
But next year I am thinking of 4-5 week trip, snow only in Nozowa with day trips elsewhere.
i will be by myself for small parts but will have 1 visitor for most.
can anyone help with some suggestions for longer term accommodation options in Nozowa for Feb/March 2018
    Thanks
