Umina NSW Weather Station reading 993hpa at sea level. The slow combustion is refusing to burn at full close indicating the lower oxygen content of the lower pressure.

Fun things to keep me busy in lockdown.

B1 v B2 again. Apparent is barely above zero. Ouch. And it feels pretty cold outside at B1 too.

I wonder how many Sydneysiders will try and escape lockdown for a cheeky chase…
POLICE LAUNCH OPERATION COVID 19 REGIONAL RESPONSE

In expectation of a potential increase in traffic numbers due to the forecast snow event this weekend, Chifley and Canobolas Police Districts are launching a full scale operation targeting motorists breaching current health guidelines by traveling from lock down areas to the regions.

The B.O.M has forecast snow across parts of the Central Tablelands for the next 3 days, and if previous snow events are any gauge, the crowds will flock to the region.

Under current health guidelines the Greater Sydney area is in a Covid-19 lockdown, meaning travel is not permitted.

Extra Police will join local officers in the 2 week operation targeting the Great Western Highway as well as other roads in and out of the region. The aim being to ensure:-

• Covid compliance
• Slow down during snow event
• Keeping roads safe
• Keeping the Central West safe from Covid

Police are warning motorists that $1,000 PIN will be issued to ALL occupants of any vehicles found to be in breach of the current Health Orders.

Police have stressed that only travel that is deemed essential should be undertaken into the Central West during this predicted snow event.

I'm not sure what everyone else is experiencing, but the winds are insane here at the moment.
Strong to gale force, coming in gusts.
Jindabyne like gusts.
Not experienced anything like this for a long time.
Yes same here, every so often a huge gust. Good night to be indoors by the heater

It was very windy earlier but it seems to have dropped off. Around 6:00 PM winds were 50-70 kph at Sydney Airport. They’ve now dropped back to around 30 kph.

There’s a severe weather warning out for much of NSW, including most of Sydney, for damaging winds:

“EAST: DAMAGING WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with gusts in excess of 90 km/h, are likely in parts of the Sydney Metropolitan area and the eastern districts including the Alpine, Southern Tablelands, Illawarra, Blue Mountains and elevated parts of the South Coast, ACT and parts of the South West Slopes for the rest of today, and likely to continue into Saturday. Higher terrain within the warning area is most at risk. BLIZZARD CONDITIONS are also possible above 1500 metres in the Alpine with blowing snow.”

Wind kept up all night though eased so plenty of mixing and hence double digit temps.

The winds are strong but westerly winds. Got me thinking about last Summer so I pulled 10 min obs for Sydney Airport and created a wind rose plot. That is, Dec 20 - Feb 21.
Summer never had a chance really.
Calm conditions are included in the numbers but not shown.
Numbers going from middle to E are the percentages of all observations for the 3 months.
