Castle Hill - Sydney
It has been a decidedly colder day today than forecast over most of the metro.
It's still just 15. 4 C here, the highest so far, with occasional light showers. Haven't seen the sun at all.
Terrey Hills is only on just 10.4 C, with coincidently, 10.4 mm's of rain so far. It appears via the radar that it has been raining on the Northern Beaches for most of the day. Maybe @Jasper Schwarz could confirm. There's been 12 mm's at Allambie since 9 am.

Mt Boyce has only reached 7.2 and impressively, Nullo Mountain just 5.8.

12mm woudl be close. Rained a good bit this morning. Some torrential rain here over the last 2 hours.

Don't have a rain gauge, but an eyeball of the pot plants suggest it wouldnt be too far off

Surface low that establishes itself over central NSW on Wednesday just dropped 10mm/hour into Perth in the last hour, with hail too.
Perth rarely gets those sorts of rainfall rates.

Might be some upgrades to moisture this arvo IMO.
Be interesting to see what the storm potential will be like, though it favours more SE QLD at this stage. Still early days in the storm season

Friday Arvo is the severe storm window for SE QLD. There's an abundance of potential by Friday evening IMO.

As the trough extends through interior NSW, CW Slopes & Upper Western willl be looking at more convective cells imbedded in rain bands I imagine (I mention it in the system thread).

Cold miserable day, with the maximum of 18C reached, very fleetingly.
Some brief light showers, but 0mm recorded at Maitland Airport.
Most of the day quite wintry in nature.
September overall though running above average for maximums for local long term stations like Tocal, which is a surprise.
Minimums are at average level.

It maxed at just 16-17° at most Sydney sites today. It was mostly overcast with some sunny breaks mid-afternoon. I got caught in a light shower around 5:30 PM.

Sydney, including today, is tracking 11.4° to 22.5° for September, i.e. about 1° below to 1° above recent averages at the old OH site (1991-2019), so on average, pretty average. Forecast rain for the last few days of the month is likely to see Sydney finish a little below average for rainfall.

It was a fair bit sunnier down this way, there were only a few times where the cloud was more dominant than blue sky. But yet the max only reached 14.8 at Bellambi. I checked out the beach mid morning and the wind really did have some bite to it.

Showers are just starting to move through now though after no rain during the day.

Warming up nicely at B1 - risen nearly 10 degrees from minimum. Some instability with 2 - 3 octas of altocumulus castellatus-- i.e building into castle like towers. But they are dissipating before they look too potent and precurse any thunderstorms.

Storm season looks like it finally arrives for NSW tomorrow, we've got two new radar to enjoy them on look forward to it. Looks like a proper Easterly Dip (bit early to be honest) fed by Pacific Moisture. I'm not expecting much for us tho ahahah. Hopefully it's not too cloudy though hopefully we get some sunny mornings.

Bit tired of these cold morning still carrying on, an average of 8.1 degrees so far in September.

September mornings have been cold. Sydney minima are tracking 0.9° below recent averages (1991-2020). Bankstown minima are tracking 0.8° below 1991-2020 averages and Richmond 1.7° below (since 1993). Sydney has had eleven minima below 10° which is unusual. That might be in part an artifice of the site move but not fully. Last year (new site) there were just two.

The sun’s disappeared behind a cloud bank to the West and shower cells are appearing in the West of the Sydney radar, nothing big so far.

The little cell west of Bankstown Ap gave a rumble as it passed by. Image at 11:54 am. A tropical feel at B1.

Holy crap! I stopped about 500m short of a tornado today! And only because of the hail, I had no idea that it was in there behind a wall of rain and hail. Only reason I stopped was because the hail was getting bigger, and my new ute only has 1200km on it... Lucky I did!
Here's some photos of the damage and hail etc

At B1 it's moderately heavy rain - half yesterdays rate at a guess. Little wind. And 20 min later about 5 mm in the Nylex.

Fog rolling down Sydney Harbour around 7:00 AM this morning:

AB5346F8-184B-4746-9A52-B00EB4A275C2.png

I used to work near Circular Quay. Occasionally, early on a clear, sunny morning, you’d see a bright white cloud of fog roll down the Harbour, under or over the Bridge. The light wasn’t quite right this morning.

From this webcam: https://webcamsydney.com/

It’s a clear blue sky morning after a pleasantly cool night, nice and fresh after a few more light showers yesterday evening. On it’s way to 27°, a perfect day for a long (71-hour) weekend.

Some serious saturation in the ground that doesn't look like changing very ripe for a flood. Hopefully, the run-up to December does dry it up. As temperatures warm in that region especially Southern NSW/Northern Victoria. Looks like a decent amount of rain coming up but heat will definitely be a factor. Hoping this translates to a better bushfire season though across the East Coast.
