50% chance i will be at glebe point taking photos of the southerly with weak thunderstorm moving up coast. i had a lightning bolt strike a tree just 25-50 m away from a imbedded thunderstorm back in 2016 at glebe point. was so loud!

Decent looking sky for storms in Bungendore this morning with ACCAS and light rain/virga, and these developed to storms around Ulladulla. So could be promising for storms in Sydney later. The passage of the trough and coastal change look to stabilise things around here but you never know. The cooler air isn't due in Bungendore till the evening and BOM still have storms in the Southern Tablelands forecast.

Temp has dropped dramatically from the 34C maximum reached, now down to 19C.
A few drops of rain around, but zero recorded at Maitland Airport so far.
Tomorrow’s rain forecast downgraded to 5-10mm, was going to be quite a bit more.

Wet prospects ahead with 2 possible ECLs in the space of a few days (according to EC). GFS conservative. Interesting weeks ahead, very volatile now.

Eeek no proper heat for quite sometime it seems, a lot of cloud and South-Easterlies for the rest of October. But maybe some warmish mid 20 days, first actual burst of heat for the coast seems to be arriving on the 31st October. Maybe that coveted 35-degree day as well.

Now a fair way through the month, and the strong negative anomaly remains: at Hunters Hill it's currently the coolest October by maxima since 2003 (the record low), with a –3° C anomaly. Cabramurra is running a solid –2° C below even the 1962–1999 dataset, let alone 1996–2020.

A definite trend-breaker as recent Octobers have been consistently warm and dry.

The radar looked interesting for a while, but the action passed to the North (Central Coast & Northern Beaches) and South (Illawarra). Here, the day was in three parts: a warm, sunny start, before a Southerly around 10:30 AM; a fairly sunny but cooler and windy middle; and a mostly overcast, raw, chilly and very windy afternoon. Before the scud arrived some quite interesting cloud formations were visible.

Here’s the view looking towards the Botany Bay heads from La Perouse this afternoon, lots of whitecaps:

Raw is a great word to describe the weather this arvo. It's been pretty cold lately for this time of the year and still no real warm weather in the forecast for at least the next week.

Surprised you got hail Donza, we didn't get a drop of rain from that cell here.

Bom.Cloudy. Very high (95%) chance of showers, tending to periods of rain this morning. The chance of a thunderstorm. Winds south to southwesterly 15 to 20 km/h tending south to southeasterly 20 to 30 km/h in the late morning and afternoon.

Hasn't even been close in Wollongong.

Same here in Sydney.
BOM didn't update this morning until 1.07 pm and they were still saying High chance of showers (70%) and the chance of a storm.
Clear and sunny all day in Riverview and absolutely no sign of rain.

We’ve had a mild to warm and mostly sunny day here - not what was forecast. Most of Sydney had little or no rain yesterday nor, so far, today. That being said, Camden and Campbelltown both got over 10 mm this morning, mostly between 9:00 and 11:00, from that cell which passed over Southern Sydney this morning.

EDIT. Maybe the showers were pushed further to the South. There are chunky looking cells near Nowra and to its NW into the Oberon Plateau. The BOM generally gets the sequences of events right but is sometimes a bit out on the timing or location.

Stongue dry southerly in Wollongong since this morning.
Seemed to knock the stuffing out of any convection offshore

I seriously cannot see any of the precip that was forecast just a few hours ago.
The previous forecast of even higher totals resulted in basically nothing for most of the metro.
Not one of the BOM's finest days tbh.

Pouring down Jervis Bay way mind you.
Got that correct.
