No fog here, just brilliant blue skies and warm too, feels like an early spring morning.
    Edit
Apparently there was a fog about, so it was not just a fog in my head this morning.

Yeah very foggy, muggy and actually mild this morning on a walk on Syd NB's. Felt very spring like temp wise.

Either that or I just had too many layers on ;).

Definitely does feel mild. Not in a muggy way down here, but the temp has reached 19°C and it's sunny.

Still quite foggy in the lower mountains and Penrith. Not often it hasn't lifted by midday!

Hi B Y I misread your question before, rusty brain is the excuse.

It’s green here BUT it’s a thin veneer. Our dam is very low and falling. The streams are trickling really. It looks nice but without very good rain before the warmth returns everything will dry rapidly.

This is a common theme in many inland areas sadly.

    Nice photo Kino

Very mild up here today, went to Orange and was wandering about in a cotton shirt, no jumper/coat etc. bonkers for Orange this time of year. Lovely but bonkers

Hoping for some showers out of approaching cloud band tonight/tomorrow.

Some rain this morning with that cloudband (as pointed out Fri) - only a ml though.

Interesting talk in other thread about an Antarctic polar vortex split - as well, the AAO is forecast to dive deeply which should allow significant polar air masses to invade SE NSW. Watching models for hints of this, hopefully we’ll get some wx and local snow chases.

Looks quite good south of about Forbes. The winter fronts we've had so far seem to have produced average outcomes south of there.

Dubbo has managed 6mm overnight which will settle the dust for a few days.

    Agreed!!!
We normally barely register much above 10c for early July in Bywong @800masl. Yesterday splitting wood in shorts and t-shirt. Bonkers. Last night 9co_O:eek: plus about 1mm of precipitation .

It's actually been fairly sunny in Sydney after a mild, overcast night. Temps have reached 20-21 in most suburbs, a bit cooler in the West.

Sydney's been under a hole in the cloud bank. I think it's closing in a bit now. No sign of any showers or thunderstorms at this stage, however.

Dog boring day here, standard July rubbish, persistent high cloud, mild & light winds. Yawnable. Ugh. Quick scan of models shows no real weather until the weekend - where it gets interesting - possible snow chase on, especially if you're able to penetrate to the usual higher exposed areas like Oberon Plateau. Both EF & GFS like snow on Sat & Sun. Hoping that creeps a bit closer and a snow chase to Kangaloon (gets up to 850m/870m along the ridge there) or Hill Top is possible.

With this system I think kangaloon might be a bit too far east for any moisture to reach and Hill Top may be a bit low in elevation (although this system is quite cold and snow down to 600m is quite possible given the -5 850s). I think your best bet is probably high range or if you want to travel a bit further, then crookwell would be a safer option snow-wise. The little known Mt Gibraltar behind bowral reaches 865m which is the highest point in the Illawarra is also an option if moisture makes it this far east

Is it worth someone starting a thread for this upcoming event?
Just to cover areas of NSW away from the Alpine areas, which will be covered in the other sub-forum. That will focus on the ski fields, while one here in the NSW forum can cover any snow chasing and current obs away from the alpine areas. Might be our chance to make a mark at our new home.
I was never that good at starting threads over at WZ. Maybe Steve777 or Wavey or even Donzah might?
    Just a thought.

Sounds good. I’m not a thread starter either but personally feel it’s a little early for a separate one the way the current models still look, as if the comments will be happy here for now apart from winds. But I assume a fellow member will make/need to add an event thread the next day or 2?

Hi all. I'm Deaf, born in Auckland, New Zealand, grew up there for thirteen years before moving to the South Island, lived in Invercargill/Christchurch (at various times) for four years, back to Auckland for another two years then moved here 23 years ago. Lived in Melbourne for the first four years before moving here (Sydney) nineteen years ago. I first got interested in the weather when I was 14 years old and did a huge project on it as part of my SE cert.
I love discussing weather as well as posting rain/sun statistics and as my username says, a fan of rain. I've lurked on WZ forums before but never had the confidence to post due to previous episodes of people poking fun at me because of my Deafness/limited english on other forums - hopefully this forum will be more kinder to me :)
It's certainly been a wet and cloudy start here with an high number of wet days so far but the next seven days looks much drier, colder and windy from the westerly quarter. Anyone know when it will rain here next?

Hey rainfan - usually the period from July to October in Sydney can experience weeks at a time without rain due to persistent dry west/southwesterly winds. Occasionally a whole calendar month, e.g. August, can go without rain. If this pattern sticks around then we might not see any rain until after mid-July at this point.

I know in the past all weather obs have gone into the relevant obs period. We have had plenty of obs from the Bluies, central tablelands etc. I know I will post in there if any snow falls here in Bywong.

Typically the obs from a major snow event will get folks kicking in from all over with how it's affecting them too etc - can't hurt to try a separate and see how it goes.

Well consider the welcome mat rolled out
As much as is possible for your username... Rain is a nasty four letter word for a place as deprived of snow as we are LOL
This place is pretty friendly just stay out of Culture Vulture/bear pit and maybe even general convo til you get a grasp on the vibe, it's more piss taking than nastiness.
    Hope you stick around

Quite chilly in Western Sydney this morning. Down to 3.1 deg which i'm a little surprised at with the airflow coming in E/SE

After a run of warm, cloudy nights, it's a clear, sunny morning, a bit chilly. Overnight lows in Sydney were about 8 on the coast (average), 3-5 in the middle ring (a little below average). There may have been frost patches in the outer West (0-2).

Regarding the upcoming events, a weak front passes over NSW tomorrow morning, with snow in Alpine areas, followed by a stronger front overnight Friday / Saturday, with some Central Tablelands snow, although not a lot. As far as I can tell, that latter seems to be restricted to West of the Divide and Saturday morning.

For the coast, it looks like a week of sunny weather with temps about average.

Might be worth a thread. I'll check later in the week.

I was wondering if we need an ongoing thread for Central Tablelands snow thread, or maybe a "Non-Alpine" snow thread or forum, a bit like the WZ "Guyra Snow Chances" thread. Maybe someone from the Tableland would like to set one up.

    Yeah true that.
I guess for all us skier we also tend to get obs in the report pages for our ski areas of choice. @Steve777 has mentioned a possibile CT, New England esc style thread?
I think for the east coast a separate thread is definitely on the cards if there is a possible ECL? Thoughts?

    Yeah they often get one

Re: obs threads - there's lots of punters with little technical weather acumen (me for one) but very interested, snow threads obviously, and I'm going to be in that one, perhaps chipping in my not so local OBS in as it's all kinda related. I won't be in some obscure thread...
    I dunno

Yep, any notable ECL would be worth its own thread IMO.

I had a re-read of the Pasha Bulker ECL thread over on WZ the other day. Would love another one of those.

Snow down to 500-600m across the STs and southern CTs on Saturday IMO. 850s sub -5 and the freezing level around 700m. Moisture looks to be pushing a bit further east on the last few stormcast GFS runs so I might get lucky with a few flakes here in Bowral early Saturday morning.

This afternoon's BOM update doesn't have any snow mentioned for Bowral, or even possible snow levels, but for Jenolan Caves and Bathurst and Lithgow has 700 mtrs, and Orange just says showers tending to snow.
Crookwell also says 700 mtrs for Saturday. It even has a mention in tomorrow's forecast for some flakes above 1300 mtrs.

You certainly could be in for a flurry or two, and more than possible on higher ground on the Southern Tablelands..

I live just south of where the Federal hwy goes over the range @800masl. I suspect as has happened so many times before that the moisture may be lacking or temps will be just to marginal for actual accumulations below about 900masl.

I doubt moisture will make it over the range. Hence cold enough at Bowral but no moisture. See it many times driving home from Sydney in winter. Sydney sunny and 18c and home at Bywong 8c and drizzle.
