Moisture upped to 30% chance and 0-1mm for Bowral, so a chance of flakes, but i think the cold air will come after the precip.
Prefer a picnic in the snowy cold weather. After so much mild weather, this cool cloudy breezy stuff is a bit of a shock
MetEye is showing Central Tablelands snow on Saturday morning (13th), peaking around 7:00. It still looks to be pretty much confined to West of the Divide, apart from a pixel around Mt Boyce. MetEye seems to keep the snow above about 1,000 metres, maybe 900 further West. However, the Central Tablelands forecast mentions snow possible above 700 metres.
IMO we'll see snow in usual CT places when snow is in the forecast for CT's... That is - Oberon Plateau, Black Springs, Sunny Corner, Jenolan Caves etc. Maybe a flake or two over at Blackheath but nothing major that way IMO. Happy to be wrong of course
Still some possibilities we will see some brief flakeage in Bathurst if we get a decent shower of precip when it is coldest on Saturday morning. My coastal visitors will freeze Probably struggle to get them away from the fire
I agree with this comment. With too many threads, folks won't know where to look or post, and I think that this will reduce posting overall. IMO, if the same weather system is affecting the alpine regions and affecting the central tablelands, then the obs should be clustered.
Let's see how this one goes. Prior to Weatherzone shutting down, there wasn't much of a CTs presence - no one was out at Sunny Corner/Shooters Hill taking photos, no one in Bathurst, etc. So the alpine threads aren't going to lose traffic with the creation of this subforum for us Weatherzone migrants There is a bigger overlap issue IMO with the VIC day to day and alpine obs threads. Squally showers/hail in Melb that is inbound for the resorts could end up split
Despite all this wind we nearly cracked 21c, 20.9c to be precise. Looks like a carbon copy coming up again tomorrow and another day of static electricity.
Should hopefully be more photos with how easy it is to upload here. I for one will post some photos if I go for a chase on Saturday arvo (unfortunately working the morning). I can literally take a photo on my phone and upload it while I'm out there, how easy is that!!
Similar here Eddy. Very windy today and surprisingly warm for July. Should change on the weekend though with 2 days of 14-15 deg's and the winds continuing.
Not much weather to talk about, just frosty mornings here, clear sunny cool days with gusty westerly winds at times. Ellalong weathercam here.https://www.facebook.com/supercell1
The weekend is going to feel so cold because of those dry winds and it'll probably just briefly peak in the mid teens. Just in time for mid July I guess I'm interested to see the max temps on those days for Bathurst, Canberra, etc. Maybe a 7.something
Another sunny, breezy day in Sydney, with a few clouds about. The wattles are getting started, some in full bloom. The jacaranda leaves are yellowing, getting ready for the dry season. I look forward to their displays in a little over 3 months. Is Sydney about to enter a dry season? The pattern in recent years has tended to a dry pattern from early-mid July to early-mid October. The 15 day forecast on Weather.com for Sydney is showing no rain in the forecast period: O The humidity column was obscured by an ad, but they were all about 45-55%. I am not sure which 'Sydney' it is forecasting for, maybe the Airport. It tends to undercook maxima at all times of the year so I generally add 1 or 2 degrees to forecast maxima. This would mean a run of above average maxima after the next few days.
Ground hog day. 20.8c was today's max. looking forward to seeing how tomorrow pans out around the state.
How many times on average does it snow in Canberra in a typical winter? I remember there was snow in July 2015 there.
It did indeed snow in 2015 in Canberra, I was driving from the Canberra Outlet centre back to work when it was chucking it down, but when I got to work it stopped and never settled, I believe Red Hill, Black Mountain and Mount Ainslie it had settled.
Wind is howling again here in Bowral, another wild night. Looks like the cold air is on the Vic border and should be here about 4am. Will it bring snow, doubtful, but one can hope.
Working in Bowral tomorrow.. hoping that there might be some sort of icy precip. Not hopeful though. Still planning a chase for tomorrow arvo, looks like there won't be enough snow to hinder my ability to drive to the high areas. The wind has been pretty tame here the past few nights despite other areas being quite windy, which is surprising since we usually cop the wind in these sort of set ups. However there are some strong gusts coming through every now and then which are missing the AWS's in this area.
Pretty mild in Bathurst currently, about 3.5, very light precip around 6 am but say 1mm only. Breeze cool. I know of light flakeage around Yetholme n Sunny Corner. Surely been some around Shooters Hill too. However it would all be light with minimal precip. Wind strengthening as I sit here. Pretty sure the wind chill will be a tad obvious today
Hi DaveM... good to see you here on the other side. I would like to report it has just snowing lightly here in the Southwest corner of Orange. We’ll see what the day brings.
Good on ya WW Steve777 has opened a thread for snow (away from alpine areas) it’s still in eastern n marine but just scroll down a little for the topic
Thank you DaveM...still navigating these very pleasant but uncharted waters ! The snow around 8:00 this morning sadly only lasted for around 10 minutes. Not a flake since.
I'm quite loving this cold wintery but sunny day, but I can understand how people could hate it. The wind is vile at times.
I honestly thought the wind would be a lot more powerful today thankfully it wasn't too bad. Temps in the sun didn't feel to bad, even though we reached a max of 15.3 degrees at Bankstown. With a peak gust of 67km/h.
There were quite a few gusts in the 60s and 70s km/h around Sydney today, plus a few 80s. The highest looks to be 87 km/h at Bellambi and Mt Boyce, with 82 at Kurnell. It was clear, sunny and windy here. Most Sydney sites maxed around 14-16. It certainly feels colder with the wind, for example at the Airport it's 14.5 with an apparent temperature of 4.0.
It looks like we're going to enter a prolonged run of minimums between 0°C - 5°C in western Sydney, with possible light frosts further west from the city.
It's cool and windy here this morning with the temp currently sitting on 10°C. Forecast max of 14°C which is a pretty rare max temp on a sunny day in a westerly wind. Usually it's above 15 in these conditions, but at least the wind is not absolutely roaring.
Look how warm Cooma is, up to 9°C which is much warmer than Goulburn and Canberra despite them being much lower in elevation. In fact it is the warmest place on the whole NSW ranges and warmer than most of the Riverina as well. Just goes to show how much of a difference that downslope effect off the Snowy Mountains can make.
Strewth, currently 8.5° C at Cooma AP, whereas here it's just 1.2° C (and –2.4° C at Cabramurra); the ~400 m altitudinal difference cannot explain such a disparity between here and Cooma AP.
AA the very brisk Westerlies are obviously bringing out the most in the variations of temperatures of locations in a line downwind. Unbelievably at Orange Ap. At 2:00pm the temp is only 2.4 degrees!! Today, with those brisk Westerlies, is the coldest day I have felt here in a while.
After a reasonable start today, it certainly turned colder late morning. We headed out with reasonable jackets but in about an hour we’re wishing we had gone to the next level of warm clothing we were definitely underdressed by the time we jumped on the Ferris wheel at our Winter Festival. Westerly Wind - I feel your pain
Looks like the rest of July is going to be very dry, just like the last couple of years. This wind is drying everything out very quickly.
What’s your location Ben? Sadly I think you’re on the mark with that thought. Especially inland areas.
Already down to –2.7° C as of 5:10 PM. Glorious winter's day. Reports of –3° C at Braemar Bay on the western angle of Lake Eucumbene.
Fohen warming, I'd say. it's pretty common for the Monaro. AWS registering 30-40% RH. What's your RH?
Hi Dave, I live on the Central Coast. Forgot to put that under my avatar. I'm a weatherzone forum refugee, lol.
Mount Victoria NSW, wind gusts increasing. Had some 100kmh gusts a short while ago that felt stronger than the ones recorded by Boyce AWS half an hour ago. Stronger than any over the past couple of days. Apparent temp -12. A menacing wall of black out in the valley. I wonder if the side on view would be a lenticular. We're right on the escarpment.
