Crazy how level the fog moving in is, can I see some stars but visibility of 20 metres at ground level. Will be very thick in the morning thankfully almost no flights to delay.

My Breath was turning into fog as I walked home yesterday at 5, and there was already fog forming by 4:30. Despite that surprisingly not as foggy as I thought it would be this morning

Has a lot to do with Wet Bulb Depression & Humidity and nothing to do with it being a winter's morning ;)

There was a bit of rain overnight, with a few falls over 10 mm around Sydney and most Sydney sites receiving around 4 to 8 mm. There were widespread falls across NSW, especially in the Eastern half of the State, with falls over 25 mm on the Tablelands and Western slopes.

It’s overcast now but there’s a clearing edge visible to the West which will be here soon.

It was a warm night. At many sites today’s minimum was recorded at 9:00 yesterday.

Currently 4.6° C (948 m AMSL); fog lifting. Might've snowed in Cabramurra, going by BoM obs, and perhaps sleet in the state forest above ~ 1,300 m. 30 mm of rain from the NW cloudband overnight makes me more than satisfied.

    Off-topic (just a brief notice):
If anyone's wondering why I'm in the South West Slopes, it's because I've de-stocked entirely @ Anglers Reach (sheep/lambing) and now focusing on cattle grazing, as well as working part-time for the forestry industry up in Tumut—so I'll be fairly inactive on the forum, as you'll notice. This property was torched in the Dunns Road fire, but now largely recovered over a period of five months…that's about as personal as I'll get about this.

Cabra - no cams, no access and no snow judging by temps. Maragle 16 mm and Tumba 21 -nice for you cattlemen. Next cold front should deliver again with snow over 1500 m at Cabra - dang it misses out by 12m LOL.....W

Foehn effect in full blast today over Southern NSW:

    Cooma (930 m) sitting on 12° C, whereas Albury (164 m) is only sitting on 10° C. Near midday.

    By comparison, it's only 5° C here @ 948 m.

That is a very long fetch that EC is putting up for next Tuesday, GFS has backed off a bit with forecast. Seems to be case these days that GFS picks up something before EC then EC picks ups pace with its predictions.

Sun was shining plentiful today, after three consecutive days of unrelenting cloud from the SW. Also managed to reach the double figures today (10.8° C).

Don't often see pressure this high in this neck of the woods.
Around 1038 in the basin sites that measure it.

I wonder what the record is.

Edge of the continent - Clovelly this afternoon.

It was fairly cloudy over land but skies were clear out to sea. It wasn’t particularly cool - about 17° - but the wind made it feel cold.

One thing I have found a bit weird lately is the varying forecasts for the Central Tablelands and individual towns/cities.
Orange forecasts have not often had snow in their forecast, yet Bathurst does, despite the variation in max temps. Orange max's are obviously forecast to be lower.
This afternoon is a perfect example. And it's not the first time it has happened this autumn/winter.
I understand it's a general CT's forecast for Bathurst, and that Bathurst is about 300+ metres in elevation below Orange, but wouldn't the surrounds of Orange also be included in the "snow above 1100 - 1200 mtrs" forecast?

    Bathurst.....
    Orange.....

Yeah nah, just common incompetence at play here. Nothing special, really.

But at least they actually get the temps right for the CT region…just lol @ the temp forecasts down this way (especially max temp forecasts). At least 3° C too warm.

Is that really it? I mean, I wouldn't be surprised, but aren't all the forecasts computer generated these days? Except of course, when they are updated due to real time obs and human intervention?
I just find these types of inconsistencies a bit strange.
@Ken Kato maybe able to explain?

I've seen various forecast descriptions/summaries over the years for multiple regions, and they all differ so greatly from one another in terms of wording and details—leading me to wager that they are not automated, but rather manually written up.

    Ok.
I suppose I mean Sydney forecasts mostly when referring to automated. As for the CT's regional one I posted above, it also appears automated and as I said, it appears very contradictory. I suppose I'm just trying to understand how the BOM issue what they do.
Also, I understand your frustration with your local area.

It’s bright and sunny here but webcams show thick fog over the Harbour and CBD. The temperature at OH at 8:30 at 9.1° is just off its minimum.

Totals starting to move up across the state first place to crack 50mms in nsw is Tooma Dam. Perisher, Thredbo and Khancoban are all above 40 so should move above 50 soon enough maybe some snow. Look forward it to what it sends up to us, Central Tablelands should do alright.

Well we're finally here winter solstice days only get long from here on in :emoji_tada:. Picked up 13mms here and in true June fashion it still hasn't dried out here especially even the pavement hasn't rained since 10am as well. Although just have got to say that this month has been absolutely devoid of anything really gusty, quickest gust was 50kms on the 1st of June.

Some very quickly formed heavy showers entering the basin now.
Could there be a few surprises tonight? I checked the radar about 40 minutes ago and there was nothing.
Now, there's big heavy drops and the rain is quite heavy.

Those showers have exploded off the coast.
Why can't they do that over my place? :)

Also, there's a nice little rain band heading in from the CT's. Wondering what that might do a little later.
