Mt Hutt opening this weekend after 50cm dump https://www.tvnz.co.nz/one-news/new-zealand/mt-hutt-give-skiers-taste-season-come-in-march
Sounds like a bigger deal than it is. They just happened to already be running the chairs that day anyway! Its not unheard of to get snow like that this time of year. Infact it pretty much happened to the day last year aswell.
Have picked up dobson season pass for $249 Will spend a month in the south island this winter so i thought why not.... Only 3 days and paid for itself
Great stuff - no other sth isle resorts can match that! Nice little field too with a fairly easy drive. ⛷❄️ In Aussie it would be a pay back in less than two days.
I got the NZ 3 peak season pass for 649nzd which gives me 50% off Thredbo day tickets as well. So I can do 5 days at Thredbo in July/Aug then ski all of Sept on the Sth Island for under a 1000 bucks.
Mm- for the bigger resorts that's great value. Might be skiing for well under $50 per day when some of us are approaching $150 PD for a handful of days. We must be crazy!
https://www.cardrona.com/content-hub/news/pringles-update-april-2019/ Tbh this is probably better news than a lift. Ive been through some of this area but will be nice to have it patrolled and marked exits
Oops - nut loose on keyboard!! Just wondering if anyone has an online map of this part of Captains - might have to dig through my paper maps 1:25k. Series. It appears /sounds like Pringles will be quite an adventure when running. I have run along the V edge of what I guess is Upper Secret (chute?) - it can be quite slick and in the fog can feel somewhat lonely without much signage or peeps around. Certainly would want to keep greenhorns away!!
Its not going to be run very often. its quite a terrible place to put a chair. IMO its just so they can have more advanced terrain listed in the stats..
Not sure if this is right? That back bowl is good fun terrain and always has lots of snow and the lower Pringles area is meant to get and keep the snow. That's been some people's secret stash for a long time.
I dunno, I spend a lot of time looking across from pisa, there isn't generally much decent cover below the cat track.
Yeah im not sure about the area . The hidden valley area is often quite nice though so i was wondering. My impression was - its rocky
Not sure. Above is a recent trail map dwg There is a bit of artistic licence there i think We usually go over the ridge at the top of the GS run in captains. I think its further right (in this image) than the Pringles area Would they really spend that much just for some better stats?? For a lift that will barely open? It can't be cheap?
