Was about that last year. Ruapehu does have very cheap Sept-Oct season pass deals for the next winter though, about $700 for an adult.

Just been sent a picture from friends skiing what I assume is Hutt. Safe to say I'm frothing for our season to get up and running now.

Haven't been there for many years, but that is definitely Mt Hutt. Looks good, but a few obvious sharks lurking (another thing I remember from there).

I hate the place. Went there in September last year and paid a kings ransom to ski absolute boiler plate elephant skin - we were on the last day of a trip and desperate to ski after we drove all the way to Ohau the day before only for them to decide not to open for the day at the last minute due to lack of customers! Quite literally was the worst surface conditions I've ever skied and that's saying something. The elephant skin ice was so bad I kept the picture.

I'm sure it's amazing on its day with good snow though!

Last year was a bad year for NZ. Certainly looking much better this year though.

Wasn't too bad when the sun made its low northerly arc above the horizon.
Good news more snow due this week. Definitely a better start than last year.

It depends a lot on the source of the numbers - if they are traceable, or even more so if they are recently returned from OS, it's far less of the build-up to a second wave than if they are community transmissions with unknown vectors.

You do, but with those who have returned from overseas and are in enforced quarantine, the risk of transmission is quite low.

For those with minimal, highly traceable contact, you have a slightly higher, but still not too high, risk of transmission.

It's only really when you get community transmission with no know source that it's an outbreak.

We just went two weeks without community transmission and all of a sudden a kid in a school in Rose Bay tests positive....Just seems so odd that there would be such a big gap...

Well she let it happen she needs to take account of it and make sure it doesn’t happen again.

who would have thought opening the borders up would bring corona back in..... people visiting for a funeral how many people missed funerals during the lock down stages? Sorry but I don’t think that really justify entry with out 14 days isolation.

if travel was going to be opened it should have only been from corona free countries first.

Looks like about 30cms around the Sth Island. I’m feeling less confident about the bubble today, as it seems cases of the virus are rising again here in Oz after the BLM rallies.

More like after restrictions have been relaxed for two to three weeks and we still have incoming cases from OS (as does NZ). BLM seems about as transmissible as Bondi Beach was(n't)

Bubble will start in October just after all the lifts shut, just to rub it in a bit more! Could still leave back country huts options, or maybe they’re not allowed this year?

Well good to see some common sense!

Now also not really feeling confident about travel bubbles anytime soon...

They were talking about the Pacific Islands which seem covid free however its pretty 1 way traffic and high risk to those nations

Coronet Peak open today. I also noticed a new offering on NZSki’s website............all season rental for $199 per adult. Now, with their upgradeable beginner pass to a season pass along with this new rental offering they really are making it attractive for people to give the sport a go. Well done NZSki.

Not really sure if the election will change much? I know the opposition were keen to open up much quicker than we did and were pushing for the travel bubble however recent quarantine issues and daily cases arriving at the border certainly puts in perspective what is still going on around the world. I doubt any party is going to come out and say they will change much about how covid is being handled here.

Even though there is no travel bubble yet, airlines are offering flights.

However their dates seem to be slipping back. Last week when I looked QANTAS had first flights on 23/7, today it appears now to be 1/8.

    Or am I missing something?
