That's frightening. However, my experience at Cardies is that the lifties were very sharp with stopping the lifts when people had trouble loading. At times, they erred too much on the side of caution and stopped too often.
Yeah unless a true had border is imposed with NSW, which they did last year properly but they have indicated they won't this time around I doubt NZ will want to open to Australia once the 8 weeks are up.Sadly yes. Unless maybe if we are able to stop the leakages over the border during that time? Can only dream.

Even if NSW hadnt fkd up we in Q would still have been screwed. Was supposed to be checking into Fairlie accom today. It is sadly looking very much the case. NSW have completely fcukt this up for everyone.
They may well have paved the way for a nth hemisphere trip this aussie summer thoughIt is sadly looking very much the case. NSW have completely fcukt this up for everyone.
Yep people are still crossing the NSW / Vic border freely = no checks so NZ wont make a distinction sadly .Yeah unless a true had border is imposed with NSW, which they did last year properly but they have indicated they won't this time around I doubt NZ will want to open to Australia once the 8 weeks are up.
That depends on the Feds and that fills me with no confidence at all. They may well have paved the way for a nth hemisphere trip this aussie summer though
HMH have told me they aim to continue into October so am keeping that option open, but as NSW have fcukt this so badly it is only a remote possibility.Yep people are still crossing the NSW / Vic border freely = no checks so NZ wont make a distinction sadly .
HMH still fly late Sept. and am pretty sure Mt Cook region could be awesome into October?
Only hope is Nz open the border to vaccinate people.HMH have told me they aim to continue into October so am keeping that option open, but as NSW have fcukt this so badly it is only a remote possibility.
It is all looking grim. Outside chance evaporating for late Oct with the climb in NSW cases. Even if it was to swing around NZ would want weeks of no cases or little transmission outside quarantine. The other issue I have with credits is spring through summer the tariffs are higher so I have to chuck more in and then run the risk of a snap border closure again.
Yeah I had a photo trip planned for regional NSW and then a dash across to the snowfields as a back up to a failed NZ trip reschedule (my third) and I have to can that now too.And any chance of sneaking into Thredbo or Perisher for a quick trip (from Qld) is non-existent. I'm getting accustomed to the idea that it'll be over two years between ski trips (Northern winter last year to souther winter next year).
Yep, be rest assured your not alone. And any chance of sneaking into Thredbo or Perisher for a quick trip (from Qld) is non-existent. I'm getting accustomed to the idea that it'll be over two years between ski trips (Northern winter last year to souther winter next year).
You reckon your govt will be letting you all freely come and go from the country by then? They may well have paved the way for a nth hemisphere trip this aussie summer though
I'll be stunned if we're allowed to go anywhere in the next 6-12 months. You reckon your govt will be letting you all freely come and go from the country by then?
I suspect that will indeed be the case.A guy at work says NZ will not open to Australia this year now.
That's the easy bit and to be expected. Done and dusted.Oh and it looks like you will need to be fully vaccinated to avoid quarantine now too.
I realise this may pain some people locked down in Australia; I sympathise.
I was very lucky to fly over to Queenstown just before the bubble burst.
It has not been the busiest or snowiest season in the Southern Lakes, but still have had some good conditions and good photo opportunities.
Here's some kiwi snow porn from the first half of the winter for you to enjoy.

Press conference with Jacinda and Dr Bloomfield @1800 let’s see what that brings.I reckon ski season may have just ended early for us in Nz.
7 days for Auckland and Coromandel 3 days for the rest of us. We’ll see what happens after that. Some consolation to aussies but sheesh the mountains are loaded with pow right now and I assume you cannot go out anywhere in NZ
Stay safe.7 days for Auckland and Coromandel 3 days for the rest of us. We’ll see what happens after that.
This is the worst freaking timing. This lockdown happening just one or two days later would have been a lot easier to bear. Some consolation to aussies but sheesh the mountains are loaded with pow right now and I assume you cannot go out anywhere in NZ
How so?This is the worst freaking timing. This lockdown happening just one or two days later would have been a lot easier to bear.
The Canterbury ski fields are all loaded with tons of fresh pow, and they've been mostly closed for the past two days while the storms were ongoing. Accumulations of 40+ cm. Wednesday/Thursday were gonna be MEGA.How so?
Talking to some people who were skiing on Tuesday and saying they've never ridden powder like that before in NZ, dry and deep. Heliskiing is also fully booked for this SaturdaySo much good snow going unridden.
I’ve been doing 15 hour days since last week so I could get away for a few days when the storm cleared. Even amuri is loaded.
Unfortunately I don't think anyone is going heliskiing on Saturday.Talking to some people who were skiing on Tuesday and saying they've never ridden powder like that before in NZ, dry and deep. Heliskiing is also fully booked for this Saturday
Late August last year (forget the exact date, but it was a big'n) was blower pow at Coronet. That was a very cold storm, there was snow on the ground from Milton all the way through on the drive over. That’s true. The storm from Friday 13 aug was light density (at the tail end of the storm) and some truly suburb skiing by anyone’s international standard (for a 30cm dump). This last storm was good but noticeably heavier sitting around 4F in density. Was great skiing at coronet yesterday, but not blower. The winds reduced from gale at 3am and to light/calm at 6am, the bits of snow after that covered up any wind effect on the snow from 16 august and all was good.
Today was supposed to be our flight home after 2 weeks. IF we had been there would we have had to do 14days hotel Q on arrival?
