NZ are in for some very cool temps, with 5-10cm possible starting late on the 5th following through until the 8th May.
Moisture could be better, but atleast it will start to feel like winter.

Sorry, POW, I don't see it at this stage, I think there is a slight possibility but just think it will slide. Certainly worth watching though. [IMG]

Would this be the same system Mahtoh predicted for Australia for the 4th-5th?

this is still on but probably from Thursday night on.
If this comes off I would have thought the Southern Lakes fields will have snow on the ground from hereon in.(I'm avoiding the terms ground cooling or base building [IMG] )

There may be something overnight on the 9th/10th may but it will depend largely on whether the cut off low that is expected will drag the expected cold pool with it. Keep an eye out for those dates for both north and south islands, still a fair way out. I still see nothing for the 6-8th..

Couple of days late but I did'nt see eventuating into a cut-off system. Looks okay for ~10cm. Could get cold over Queenstown/Wanaka region, with a localised cold pool.

Good work! 10cm would be nice.

Still, I think that most likely scenario is that the low will weaken too fast and we'll end up with some cloud and cool breezes instead.

...I was hopeful of permanent snow on the ground from this sytem from my divining techniques ie cold pool + cut off low..not related to your call POW...I suspect you'll be closer to the mark.

I don't think the south island will get too much at all, but if you live in New Plymouth head up to Taranaki on Thursday morning and I think you might get a surprise... up to 20cms... It's been a while since i've been down that way, but a lovely place when it's white...

10/11th looks likely for some North Island snow.. around 10-20cms.

Taranaki and Turoa that is, don't expect anything at Whakapapa, it's coming from the wrong direction for that.

    hmm cola does look promising
earliest I've seen a decent fall on Taranaki , with the field open is 28th May (96) (I think the agreement with DOC says they can open from 1st June)
anyway a bit of snow will give me an another excuse not to go to sea in conditions like today

this was a medium sized set taken from the security of my car's front seat, ...."Bogworks", right in town.

crowds are not a problem, and even if they are, nobody can tell where the next place to takeoff will be [IMG]

the irb was anchored in the "channel", but a sneaker set capsized it!
