All the years I stayed at Apira the temp guage read around 1.8-2deg higher than actual temp.
R**n on the cams at both FC and Hotham, but real, actual snow happening live on both the APIRA and VS cams at Buller!
^Any on ground confirmation of the above?
I observe Hotham AWS has the temp at -2.4 at 1.30pm.
The outdoor temp unit at APIRA you see in the lounge is just outside the stairs to the right.
The temp on the camera comes from a unit that is in the roof and the temp sensor is out on the camera mounting arm.
It lacks a sun shade so when the sun is out it reads high, otherwise at night it tracks the BOM temp which is taken from up near the top of Tirol T
Close to 10cms on the car at Buller today, carpark level. Snow is wet but is snow to reasonably low levels, down to Dump Inn. They're getting lucky, apparently good skiing today. If the temps drop a little it'll be great tomorrow morning.
Where? I don't see rain... I see good accumulation w top cameras snowed over.
Cam housings are heated so if it snows on the cam, after a period it will melt and look like rain on the glass.
Helps to figure out how long ago it snowed if you see new snow on the ground in an image.
One exception is Buller summit cam due to the fact the cam is inside the cabin and looks through the plexiglass window.
If that is wet then its usually rained not just melted snow and they keep the door open there so it wouldn't be warm inside like a cam housing.
Definitely still snowing at Falls - wet snow I grant you, but snow nevertheless
Was snowing/raining in the village at Thredbo. But looks to have stopped now. The visibility at the top was apalling - Sponars and Karels closed due to poor visibility. It was snowing up high down to just above the village. Perhaps 10-15cm up high since midnight. Huge amounts of windblown on Waimia but visibility made skiing difficult.
I observe that snow is still sticking to the snow gun casings and tree tops at Buller Toboggan run.
Looks likes it's absolutley smashing down on the Perisher cams; heavily set in
Temps all below 0C too
Can confirm it has been a very snowy and cold day here in Perisher
Falls Creek twitter feed reports 152cm snow depth this afternoon... up from 144cm 6 hrs ago.
looks like even more than that on the cams
10cm more at LM today

I observe that looks amazing
for you and lake mountain tecks!
A bit old (by the hour) but looks like lovely snow off to the side
Need to retract.
Just off the hill, Buller, good snow, great riding in the trees everywhere,
Likewise at Thredbo and good snow all the way to the village
Next band of rain about to hit Melbourne. Should hit the alps in a couple of hours.
-0.7 at baw baw and -0.6 at buller, Might be to warm for LM. Possibly of cooler air coming with it?
Buller has cooled down a bit (was -0.2), but looking at Mt William temps I doubt it will go down by much.
report from Hotham and dinner plain - snowing heavily all day
kids had a ball skiing the fresh at Marys slide this morning while I slave away at the bakehouse.
Reporting from DP/hotham.. Monday/Tuesday cold and light fresh snow. Wednesday more fresh slightly warmer. Today morning lots of freshies getting slightly heavier. Deep stashes and lots of freshies. Wet snow this arvo at DP, colder since 5 and accumulating.. Snow and wind now picking up now. Radar looks good. Tomorrow morning should be above average
Radar looks epic atm.
Wind direction and temp ..plus radar. ..epic for perisher
ahhh, has been dumping again at Buller for a while now. Stone fence is completely gone outside our place ( drift about 3 foot high now)
It's quite possible we've had 20cm today already.
Really coming down now at Falls Creek now. Fat dense flakes been coming down for about an hour.
Just awesome. Tomorrow is the day.
Incoming...... perisher 30cm overnight from the radar..... dont start work till1pm........ north p is on.........
Maybe, but I am glad I didn't take a chance, just in case. Still some 50/50 Buller possibility imo.
Big 4 should be all snow
Next few days not looking at all good for LM
Snow all night long at Buller tonight IMO. Report will have 20cms+ tomorrow morning.
Bit of a warming trend going on at the moment. I don't like it.
5 mins ago Perisher.
Will be for sun baking!
Big accum at falls, snowing hard and has been for hours
Quality questionable I think, but a distinct crunch from those walkin up th road gives me hope
Thought I caught a warm breeze for a moment on the balcony a few mins ago, but gone quickly (maybe it was just me?!)
just looked outside the lodge window at Perisher, an easy 10 to 15 cm since i came in about an hour ago, still puking down!
Soap wash for your mouth!
This is a huge storm. Struggling to keep Hotham rd open... Fitting chains to all cars.
That's part of why I didn't bust out all stops to get up there tonight. I do need to be in Melb tomorrow though I could have ditched responsibility without too much recourse. But an earlier post from skidown about it getting warm and how Thursday would be the day was in the back of my mind.
Back on topic: Buller up to -0.3C
64mm at BOM gauge, about 30mm mm since last night
No more snow on VS cam than at 30mm last night and APIRA roof cleared (that means rain)
Temp rising gradually through out.
But not at all surprising.
Big 4 have done well
