was thinking that might happen this arvo.
lucky the dust over town was mainly from the dry lakebed. and not west of the mountains for once.
How's my front door?
all over now. roll on tomorrow ... place is as empty as the lake.
See you Saturday
3-4 cents on Perisher snow stake this AM.
5ish cm of snow overnight in Perisher. Now it is just cloudy with very strong winds.
Dusting overnight in kiandra area, looking across the eucumbene river from sawyers hill.
Kiandra looks stunning with pools of water everywhere and multiple shades of green.
Radar thickening up over vicco
Very light snow shower started at DP
Freezing drizzle and the occasional snow shower at Buller.
Bit nervous that we have too much westerly flow in it today for Buller...
Snow on the cams at FC.
Cool with occasional drizzle and sunshine on the Jindy North Shore, excellent wood chopping weather.
Heavy upslope fog all day here, with moderate rain (11.7 mm) and mostly straddling 4°–5° C (maxed at 6° C thus far).
Freeze Level stitting around 1700m for the resorts which is inline with modelling at this point.
Hotham/Dinner Plain Observations Wed 23rd
Very light flurries of mostly wet snow during the middle of the day between 1600-1650m near Dinner Plain. Only settling at times in protected nooks in vegetation etc.
Between 3:30-4:30pm through Hotham resort, snow was settling consistently and developing good cover across ground above 1750m (around Diamantina Hut). White but slushy cover across road above that too. Photo Summit Chair 4pm (1770m) Thicker layer of snow on building below must have formed last night?
The BoM forecast this morning and from prior days for today said "falling as snow above 1100m". Even allowing for +200m to point where it settles that always seemed optimistic. I guess the text description is for the coldest part of the day and we might be a bit closer to that before midnight, but still seems well too low.
EC forecasts via Jane's site seem much closer to the mark and consistent with observations above.
Seems bang on to what was in store IMO.
Will see an up tick tonight though.
Schnee on Perisher cams.
Right on queue.
~1cm on the snow stake at 10pm tonight, thus far.
Radar showing some lack lastre showers over the next 6-8hrs IMO
Better than expected and looking at BOM Obs it continues.
Negative 3, slight wind lakeside. Decent fresh layer overnight , down to 1600m ish
Retrospective radar is insipid.
Came from nowhere
15.8mm in the can at Perisher.
Currently snowing very heavily at Perisher, not too much wind.
Snow Stake this morning with main event to come
Estimate 15-25 cms total to date at higher elevations around Mt P. Took a good look today with @robbo mcs. Depths varied according to aspect and elevation. Heavy wet snow for the most part but it skied nicely when untracked and away from groomer runs.... Another 20 cms would be very nice.
Spoken like a true thredbo devote
Steady on. If one could chose a ticket which allowed one to pick and chose where they skied based on conditions and daily weather there'd be plenty of days i'd pick Perisher over the other place.
Prior to cheap season tickets and the self powered only days i was a swinger.
This year i did all my skiing at Canobolas. About 1 run of it for about 100m vertical.
Stay on topic.
Obs for the date range only.
Sat pic is porn
That’s more like it.
Fair bit of rotation west of Mt Gambier
Snow on snow stake cam.
Down to 2.2 at Mt Lofty in SA.. I'd say theres a reasonable chance of a flurry there.
Looks to be a fair bit of accumulation in the last hour imo
That snow stake really needs to be at the bottom of Intercepter chair to be useful for more than frothing about "snow on the high peaks".
Drizzle and overcast on the Jindy North Shore, feels just about right for a decent snow fall later.
I’m happy with a 1700m location, very rarely do I ski below that elevation.
Bring on the weekend, I see a 5 hour drive coming up once again
11mm rain overnight starting at about 1am ,almost zero wind and low temp of 0.3c at the high perch over Tumbarumba.
At the other resort its snowing on the Friday Flat cam if that helps
Raining when I left Jindy this morning. Turned to snowflakes at sawpit @1200m, sticking to the ground @1350m+.
Snowing lightly at Perisher base, looks like 3cm or so on the ground. Winds are moderate, but not too bad at the moment
People complained for years and years about resort snow resorts and depth measurements etc. So when Perisher put that in, and is the only resort in Oz to have a clearly visible snow measurement cam, people then complain about the location
Truth is that cam is not representative of the whole resort, but no cam ever will be A lot better than no cam
... just yanking the PB chain, such an easy flush
Now dumping big flakes of "wet powder" on the Jindy North Shore.
Put another log on the fire
This looks just as good as anything during winter!
Photo of Perisher this morning per The Man from Snowy River Hotel Facebook page
2.4° C here, with 13.0 mm collected. Occasional sleet showers.
