MSLP charts show a series of fronts over the next week, passing just short of the mainland. But the one on Wednesday looks wet with deep fetch and may get the southern resorts?

Perisher today had pockets of really, really nice snow. Not deep (5-10cm) but good dry snow.

The rest was patches of sheet ice as anything dry had been blown off.

Looks like it is snowing on the Mt Hotham Cental video cam. Nothing showing on the radar though?

The radars don't show precipitation accurately / at all, over elevated terrain. The snowcam and AWS obs are what you'll have to work with.

Wouldn't count on it, the conditions will be quite borderline.

The wind is now NW so the temperatures will slowly be rising or holding steady for the rest of the night.

May I remind everyone this is current weather observations only thread. Discussion about snowmaking and snow conditions doe not belong here.

    Thanks!

Sorry skimun, please correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't reporting on snow conditions constitute 'observations'? Or is it for weather conditions only?

I observe a westerly flow at Buller and marginal temps and you know what that means - drizzle / wet snow mix . Not pretty outside ATM in the Village. Prob snowing up higher though. Village is still white though and the cars still have plenty of snow on them so minimal damage from this stuff.

''Melbournians enjoyed an early end to winter this year as the city experienced its mildest August nights in 10 years, according to weatherzone.com.au.''

Is that right ? I definitely didn't enjoy.
People who celebrate an early end of a warm winter with little snow and even less rain, need psychological assessment.

    Sorry , am I off topic ?

I observe a steady chain of showers moving directly west to east across the Thompson cachements and a crucial temperature drop in the past two hours at Mt. William.

Freezing levels are in the process of lowering somewhat west to east.

just took a quick look at the radar, a very nice band of moisture is heading towards the NSW resorts, shame the temps arn't so nice, but it should do fine for Perisher with a temp at 1700m of 0.7 degrees.

Wet and windy day today at Falls...albeit lots of fun with 10cm overnight, and snowing atm - big flakes not mizzle as we had for most of the day. Flakes are falling nicely, not blowing all over the place. I observe best run of the day was shadow ridge, around 11am.

snowed on and off all day although at one stage borderline rain although none seen.massive snowdrifts formed at roundabout at the pass some easily 2 metres deep.Top of chair also forming some cornices and big drifts from almost a week of strong to gale force westerlies.some areas have filled in more than big years although bottom of t has only maybe 20cm base.

Plenty of moisture and cold in Tas, and good snowfalls. The westerlies always bring alot of something in western tas, wind, rain or snow or everything which is whats been happening recently.

Really cold in Canberra ATM, only 8 degrees.

Pressure is high at Thredbo, but only 2.3 degrees.

Don't like the look of the BOM forecast though, 40mm of R@in.

It's warm at Thredbo at the moment, around 2c, but at least it hasn't started raining yet.

Radar and sat are showing not much moisture for the next little bit, and the sat even suggests that the main moisture is just a little too far north to be doing any damage. Fingers crossed it stays this way!

Speckle looks to be crossing SA coast at the moment. Mount Gambier has dropped 1.5 degrees in the last hour, fingers crossed that continues too.
