HUGE cells popping up around Melbourne. Expect some huge cells to also develop around Buller / Hotham in the next 2 hours as that band trekking from the NW hits elevated terrain.
Oh dear. Temps aren't dropping that much with this rain either. http://www.weatherzone.com.au/radar.jsp?...k=1&lye=1&lyf=1 http://mirror.bom.gov.au/products/IDR492.loop.shtml
Had a Michael Caine moment when the front came through: "You were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!!!!"
Iam observing a a sick feeling in my guts looking at that huge front heading for hotham with temp at +3.9. :-( Nooooo!
Well that was a bit of a no show. Short and sharp, then moved away and brought a heap of wind. I think much of it was virga, the storms will be worse up high. Although I don't think there is enough in this one to do any real bad damage.
That "cool change" that hit Melbourne is hardly cold enough. When it hits the alps it will bring the temps to around 1-2 IMO. If they are lucky, they will dip furthur towards 0c and possible just under tonight. The cold FRONT isn't progged to arrive until tomorrow afternoon.
Exactly. The temp drop is just storm cell cooling as the cold air from the top of the cell gets slammed down and out. Cells pass, temps rise again.
Observing the live Perisher Cam, in the fading light, the skies appear to be relatively clear. I am also observing children playing on a large mound of snow that has been pushed up in front of the Perisher Centre. Interesting.
It is absolutely [auto-censor] down with rain in Jindabyne. Thunder started about 20 mins ago. Spoke to the kids in Falls Creek earlier tonight and they said it started raining in Falls Creek this afternoon then they got hit with a monster thunder storm. I guess we are just about to get the same storm. Temps are still way too warm at Perisher.http://www.perisher.com.au/winter/snowreport/aws.php
looks like this current band of precip is just about to taper off, not much on the horizon except for a a few speckles coming from Mt Gambier but it looks like it will miss the resorts anyway. All resorts are still above 0 and it looks like it will stay that way for a while. Not happy John.....
Sat pic and Radar look a bit more promising. Cloud and wet streaming through SA http://www.weatherzone.com.au/radar.jsp?...k=1&lye=1&lyf=1
Quick shower in north Melbourne, so there is still some moisture around. Temp in Melb has dropped two degrees since this morning. More cold air (and moisture) still to come, Avalon is down to 10.8 degrees (having reached 15.0 at 11:00 am). Radar shows lots of shower bands across souther Victoria...hopefully they make their way to the Alps.
Precipitation has hit Hotham..nothing on the AWS though. Village road seems to have snowed over very quickly... it looks a bit wet down the bottom of Slalom Gully..hopefully it will get colder and drier overnight.
Big flakes.................... but wet. Talk about a season of marginal village temps for snow.. I don't think we have had much snow below the entry gate this year. Hmmmmmm.
