The wind looks to be dropping too....
It's as windy as all hell and dark, so it's pretty hard to pick whether it's rain or snow... both look similar under spotlights.
I'm sure it will be snow soon enough
i observe the band of moisture on the radar still looks tasty for the high resorts in NSW...
Will there be any significant moisture after it becomes cold?
Defs looks like snow on MW Perisher cam... If this keeps up this dump could be huge!
I'm putting $50 on that it's big bloody wet snow flakes at Perisher on that live cam. The kind that melt on impact unless they hit an open freezer...
(sorry what cams? I can't see any live cams at Perisher? How dumb am I? Thredbo village I see of course )
O at the top of Perisher (finally). Should start to fall slowly across the resort. Another couple of hours and only a couple of degrees to go.
I thought we might get lucky with the cold air rushing in from the west but the mountains did not drop as much and as quick as lower elevations.
0.5c at BULLER (1700m ASL)
My right knee and eyes tell me there be snow on the cam at PV right now.
Bring it on.
What is the really cold air going to bring????????
Mountain watch live cams, if you look past the rain drops on the lense you can see some snow like behaviour near the spot light...
Ahh thanks - didn't click the button to get off the replays

I think I'll take the trip on Sunday.
We'll see what's on the Perisher report when I wake up tommorrow.
Where are the live cams?
i took a chance and booked in with 5 mates for the weekend
damn im glad... cant wait to see what has been produced over night and its only going to keep up till saturday!
yeah i believe its snow on the fv cam...u can see it settle on the roof, and filling the foot marks on the ground...im heading down on monday
Have lost satelite tv twice in half an hour.Temp at CPV just below 1.Settling on roof and exposed grass out front.Had about 2 cms already.
This weekend will be epic, got a bloody wedding on....
definatly snow now its pukeing down (pb front valley cam)
it's snowing now!
Any snow in Jindy ?
Probably wouldn't classify it as puking just yet. Give it another 24 hours or so however and you will see some REAL vomit.
If its snowing hard higher up already then that bodes pretty dam well for some large accumulations. The front that's bringing the colder air tomorrow looks sweet on the sat pic. Looks like a great mix of colder air and moisture. Combined with pressures starting to dip below 1000hpa already and it all adds up very nicely
Is there another large band coming through tonight?
Some patches on the MtGambier radar
No idea if they will make it east.
Nothing in between that and Yarrawonga radar
(Both Melb radars out of action)
YEWWWWW Can even get away with these while Sandy is MIA
It's been raining on and off in Wagga over the last 2 hours so there's still plenty of moisture left in this initial band. Drove from Swan Hill to Wagga this arvo and got some very heavy showers along the way.
Yeh looks to back off a bit after the current band passes with not much until the next front arrives tomorrow morning sometime, but its a moist airstream so my guess is even if the radar is not showing much there may well still be some precip. falling.
Not sure how it will affect temps though and with things so marginal for the snowline, a small change in temp will make a big difference to whats happening!
with over 100 people viewing the weather topic (mostly noobies) i would say the MIA is self induced
Nearly 50mm of rain at Thredbo top station since 5pm! Has hit 0C now, so hopefully there is some snow falling up there.
Last few hrs have been a significant period but obs seem to be holding steady, no noteables to report for now.
well that was ugly.
but hopefully it's all over now and we can sit back and watch the opera.
The first of the colder air should trail behind the next front I would imagine.
OMG, anyone else can see heavy snowfall happening on Mountain Watch streaming camera ( Perisher Front Valley) or am I delirious after 12 hrs work? Surely looked like heavy rain some time ago!
Disappointing but not unexpected given the warm temps and there should be a little snow overnight.
Now lets see what that big band spinning off Adelaide does. Looks like its going to struggle to go
too far north though from the loops. Then after that there's more to come from the really cold
speckled stuff behind.
Yes sara it is a good sign of things to come. The heavier wet snow seems to have dropped off for now until the next band arrives. Time for sleep and dreaming of a Winter Wonderland when I wake.
Nice little temperature drop!
Temperatures in VIC should remain steady now until the next front hits in about 5 Hours (Guesstimation on my behalf!)
Yeh looking at the sat pic I came to a similar conclusion. Definitely guestimation for me at best, probably more guess. Certainly moving fast though, hopefully (should) start to impact sooner rather than later.
The precipitation around Mt Gambier doesn't look like its heading for the mountains. The stuff around Kangaroo Island looks more promising at least for the southern ski resorts.
I am 80km's south of Adelaide, and the wind has really picked up, looks like we're about to get a belting again, radar showing another heap of wet stuff not far off.
So wait, is it still puking down wet snow in Perisher?
Well, according to the cam, something is falling atm. As to whether or not it's snow, no idea. Looks like snow though.
it's hard to say, it looks as though it's snowing at the moment judging by the mountain watch cam. Moisture seems to be dying out, next band coming 5-7 hours , shoud bring some cold air with it.
Still snowing at Perisher.
It's 0.6 degrees @ 1700 m (i.e. Davenport Area)
It's just starting to snow, but its not really accumulating yet!
