Some nice bands heading NE for the big resorts now. Remember the radar loses intensity due to the topography, so we might have a few cms here IMO.
    Hailing in Carlton now...

Looking good for fairly persistant snow showers throughout the afternoon and evening judging by the latest SAT pic. Possibly 15-20cms across LM and Baw Baw by tommorow morning.

    IMO.

It's freezing. I hope this is sign of the season to come.

    I observe it's 7.7c in Melbourne CBD.

Even if you standing on tippy-toe at the top of Eureka Tower (maybe 3c there) I doubt you are seeing snow.

    I agree - pics please

Observed the Perisher FV cam at 10:30am this morning and it looked like nukage going on then - just refreshed and it looks virtually identical - utter nukage and damn cold: -3.6 !

This is one mighty impressive system in terms of coldness.....should be some crazy pics/footage on the news tonight of snow in weird places.

Can anyone confirm snow in Cooma / Jindy?

Has the moisture made it that far yet? the radar looks as though it is all action west of the mountains, not east.

    agreed

OK... for all my learned friends
9 times out of ten that low would scurry off past tasmania into the depths of the tasman and it would be all over red rover before bedtime
however judging that sat pic is really starting to spin up some goodness

Low centre of rotation is tracking east. I'm not permitted to make predictions here, but Donza's comment is unfortunately consistent with this morning's ASX update.

The satellite picture shows the southerly feed straight into the mountains [IMG]

Although Baw Baw definitely looking the goods to. Can see the cold cold post frontal clould and it appears to have quite high moisture levels to. Looking forward to the cams tomorrow moreing, a quick trip could be in order [IMG]

Hailing hard at Safety Beach, was just down at Anthony's nose and saw a massive cell coming over, looked like a tornado type of cell with a tad of rotation. Outdoors here at the moment is uninhabitable.

I observe that the centre of rotation on the low seems to be starting to track to the NW rather than just W on the Radar and Sat loop.

Alternatively I observe that I'm getting optimistic and imagining things. I think its the first one though, the next couple of hours will be interesting.

I observe a lack of any live "on the ground" accumulation reports. [IMG] I also observe the system tracking way further north than expected, not being bumped hard east yet, good setup for the next few days, geez! [IMG]

    Re: Observations 2nd - 6th June

I observe that it has been 5 degrees or less all day here in Harrietville. Temp dropped significantly from 10am. Solid bit of rain from 12noon till now, have heard its puking up top. Looks like Hoys have started fitting chains already. The charts look like pure weather porn, this system should sit on us for a few days and rip up some super cold air. I wouldn't be suprised if we get a bit in Hville too. Our mountain bike park could become a terrain park...

thredbo VT cam seems to show accumulation on the benches. That would indicate reasonable snow at village level.

Yea, definately some accumulation there, and the majority of the moisture hasn't even hit the NSW resorts based on the radar,

The low is really driving north now. Pressure looks like about 993-999 [fixed] in the centre (well, the BOM AWS's around Tas) so not super super low but handy. Gradient: I'm not really sure what to make of it, have 1014 in Bairnsdale, 1011 in Melbourne airport. I would like it to be lower but when wouldn't we?

This system was always predicted to have higher then preferred pressure. We are doing extremely well. so far, considering this.
