    Re: Observations 2nd - 6th June

Neither of sites show anything below below 0 this arvo - you would have mixed it up with the App Temp and got excited.

The station has always been at Ferny Creek (One Tree Hill) - it is exactly 100m lower than Mt D summit.

It can certainly understand the excitement! I am DESPERATE for it to drop by those 3-4 degrees. I'm nearby, in Emerald at 350m, and it would make my year to call the boss in the morning and say "sorry, can't come today - snowed in" [IMG]

    Re: Observations 2nd - 6th June

    Just drove back from Thredbo

Somewhere around 3-5cm in the village and it was snowing heavily at 6pm. Snowing all the way down to Crackenback Cottage, it had settled down to the bottom of Penderlea Hill.

It's frickin' freezing in Jindy too - that's the official meteorologicallly term

    Re: Observations 2nd - 6th June

NSW doing ok so far with the obs from Perisher weather station showing 2cm an hour rate from about 4pm.

    http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDN60801/IDN60801.94915.shtml

I find the Perisher AWS weather station is probably the most accurate.

+2 is definitely cold enough, a strong shower comes through and it will have snow falling out of it on mt D, just wont settle. Well from my experience anyway.

I observe it snowing at Mt Macedon.

Down to 5 degrees in Melbourne - it's now snowing half an hour outside of Melbourne (according to Tweeters).

I didn't/hasn't snowed in the southern Suburbs (Tuggeranong Valley) of Canberra. We did get a fair bit of rain, though. I'm going to be interested in seeing what's on the Brindabellas as I drive in to work in the morning. I work at the foothills of those suckers.

Forecasted temperatures here for tomorrow are -4 to 8. It's currently about 5.1C; 5.5 to 6.0C while it was raining (hence, no snow).

The temp here at my place (Tuggeranong) was stuck on 6 deg for a long time while we had a few showers. Its now been steadlly droping for the last hour to 3.8. I'd say there will be a few spots of black ice on the roads in the morning around the region.

I have had to pull the fleece blankie out its that cold here in Melb, raining quite heavily at the moment. watching the radar and this patch of moisture should hit the vic resorts shortly, looks like it will continue for most of the night.

Yeah, I'm worried about the drive from Chisholm to Greenway at 7.30am, too. Okay, it's only 7 minutes; but, I still want to arrive safely at work. I must remember to concentrate on the roads, and not be gazing off at the Brindies looking for evidence of snow about the peaks. [IMG]

It's currently quite calm in the southern reaches of Canberra. Not overly cold compared with last night. But everything is still very wet from the rain earlier in the evening.

First week of August 2005 we were at Falls and it broke all kinds of coldest maximum day time temps that day, and your right Donz, the snow was cold smoke. Ireckon it was between -6 and -7 all day, and I think Hotham was closer to-8!! We were ripping circuits up inter, across to the maze and down to gully bottom and it was more or less as dry as anything we had ripped in Canada, but not Japan! Even so, it was covering our tracks every second run, mind blowing stuff for Australia, and bouncing thru the trees beside inter poma, we were getting face shots reserved only for the trees of big hills overseas.

Wow - currently -8.1 at the top of the Perisher Quad & -7.5 Thredbo top station. That's almost as cold as it gets in the mtns especially whilst there is still precipitation around.....I wonder how cold Perisher Valley & Charlotte's will get once this system moves through and we're left with clear skies......!

I'm with TJ - more observation pics people

Edit: Even bigger wow just observed: Bottom of the Perisher Quad = -6 with -22 windchill!!!! Brrrrr

Not great for falls, hotham and NSW overnight. Lucky to be 10cm. Baw Baw looks amazing. That object in the summit cam has been almost completely buried so i'm guessing 50cm there. I would imagine buller has done much better also.

Best chance for NSW looks like later this afternoon and into tonight when that white blob sitting over tassie travels up from the south. AXS 3 day still going for some big totals between gippsland and the snowies. Hopefully a big chunck of that makes it far enough to give the main range some decent snow.
