A 10km stretch of road south of Berridale is affected by very heavy snow. There are snow ploughs on the road. Motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution as visibility is poor.

    go you good thing

Here's the RTA report:Lanes Affected: All directions
Other advice: Kosciuszko Road - caution, snow and ice on the road from Jindabyne to the park entrance. Chains are required from the park entrance to Perisher.
Alpine Way - caution, snow on the road from Jindabyne to Penderlea Gap. Chains are required from Penderlea to Thredbo and beyond.
Snowy Mountains Highway - caution, snow and ice on the road. Chains may be required from Cooma to the park boundary. Chains are required from the park boundary to Yarrangobilly Caves. The road is unsuitable for heavy vehicles without chains.
Guthega Road - chains are required from Kosciuszko Road to the village
ANd latest update is a prang in Jindy. Take it easy

Thredbo & Charlottes both calling nearly half a meter of fresh in the last 24 hours.

I would have a guess and say that Buller's 8 cm is due to some strong southerlies, given there are reports on here of approximately a foot of fresh on the roads & in wind protected areas.

It'd be an EPIC day in any NSW/VIC resort I would guess.

The ruler at Perisher must be broken???? 20cm in the last 24 hours- Considering I had reports of an easy 40cm yesterday and it snowed all night. Me thinks the old Perisher chestnut of only reporting the snow falling at night has happened again.

Thredders 45cm but where, up high we assume. 15cm in village.
Selwyn 30cm fresh but they say total depth 30cm - but there was 14cm depth yesterday. But they admit 50cm powder under the trees.
PB say only 20cm o'night but 24hr fall is also given as 20cm. What a way to run a business!!! Can we have some consistency PLEASE?

Get off your ring and check it our for yourself. In Australia, it's not like there's much difference between 20cm & 45cm... It's fresh and deep in any aussies language.

Thredbo would have recorded their 45 cm @ eagles nest, merrits etc.Easy to get to at 6am.
Perisher would have recorded it at PFV and Blue cow.
Merrits and eagles nest are in the lew of the hill. More windblown.
Take it from a mate who was working out in that blizzard last night at P. He reckons some of the drifts are thigh to waist deep.

Its pretty hard at 6am in a howling blizzard to give scientific readings.

Clear as a bell in Berridale snow settled on the hills around Berridale. As for road conditions I think the road is now clear all the way to Jindy.

Buller will still be getting more scattered snow falls today, still a fair bit of SW moisture heading up there.

There's easily 40cm in places at Perisher and that was only the lower part of Centre Valley.

I'd love to see what it is like up top but the Quad is on windhold so I'll just have to wait until tomorrow.

    Love your work, Curto.

Looks like it is still falling heavily on the Perisher Cams, with the Ridge looking superb for it's season debut. Still a little moisture about on the radar, let's hope it can head north a touch.

I think this is on topic:

re "low" Buller snowfall amount - the front hit them first so they seemed to get quite a bit during the day yesterday, while NSW resorts did best last night.

So perhaps Buller are only reporting new overnight snow.

That could explain why they are only reporting 14 cm (8cm?) new snow, although on the ground reports show a total of 40+cm fresh.

    Perisher....20cm of snowfall overnight
Thredbo ....45cm in the past 24 hours.

I think people are getting the two mixed up.

Cams showing miserable weather if you're out in it, but still building depth even if the resorts are unsure. If it clears as predicted tomorrow it will be on for one and all. BoM updated forecast going for isolated snow showers so hopefully lots of sun too

I'm impressed the SW feed of moisture is still delivering!

Maybe 5 - 10cm in it for buller by tommorow morning...possibly 5cm for Falls / Hotham.

    Just stopped skiing in Thredbo.

Today was pretty good. In some places there was easily 60+cm of powder about half way down the supertrail. Tomorrow opening Karels would have some very nice powder up there 100cm in someplaces.

The wind has blown it into built up areas next to certain runs at levels over a metre deep. And yes it was also blizzzzarding.

Man, talk about Chinese whispers - here's what I wrote this morning

" The plough just got out on the road at Buller in the village and on the flat section of road outside the old Latrobe building, cut a swathe through the fresh since last night ( no tyre tracks ) that is at least a foot deep ( for you youngsters out there that doesn't mean I'm saying we had 30cm fresh o/night but just that there is a LOT of fresh around). All the stairs in the Village square are covered in drifts that you could ski down and it's a blanket of pristine white!"

    and then

"absolutely - still at least no-one can accuse them of overstating the snow. I'd agree and say we've had at least 25, maybe 30 cm since yesterday morning and it's still snowing on and off lightly. "

there was plenty of fresh ..........but it's all gone now [IMG]

still snowing on and off lightly.

Is that because it was just snowed over?
