I observe 20 something degs.
Winds off shore .
ESE swell 1.0 m
Point Lookout .
Have watched the weather contract to the peaks. Nothing here to the East where it’s sunny and mild at the moment other than more powerful winds. Feels as strong as anything experienced up the hill this morning. Ist pic looking to PV.
Looking towards the SW.
Back towards resort.
Hopefully some of the forecasted moisture heads this way late this afternoon.
Is that top of Summit quad? Looks ordinary.
Dropped to 7c with that heavy band of rain and also had some soft hail mixed in at times.
Currently 8c and all cleared up for the moment.
Waiting for colder air to come up now.
Looks like the coldest air will arrive through gippsland vic around the 3am mark Tommoz morning I’d say. Hopefully see a flurry when that moves through
For me the rule has been less than 15. I made a comment a few days ago that it looked a little warm. However, EC I think only shown 13 so I piped down as there are better heads than mine on this.
This system has spring like feel all over it IMO. Its 21 in Sydney, raining turning to snow in the mountains which is forecast to be heavy and great. Just hope the stuff that precedes it does not destroy it.
Does anyone believe the 40cents posted by PV. Seems alot from the pics but it does have the crap blown out of it?
I observe nearly 70mm in the can since wednesday at perisher 1730m. With the wind and temps any dry snow would be blown into drifts leeward and any wet stuff would melt the ice on wind scoured areas, so hopefully the next wave will bring more positive results, sorry if off topic.
No snow today since 9am in Perisher. But wet. Gluggy. Moist. Muzzle. No accumulation on the ground whilst out. Makes for easy turning but slow snow. Escaped the crowds to Brumby. The only lift running at BC. In for lunch. Here’s the view. Where is the white stuff ?
Can someone confirm (or deny) that the little bits of white in the bottom of the Telephone Box Junction (TBJ) cam on Stirling shows accumulated snow on the seats out the front of the Kiosk? See where I circled in red in the image.
If it was accumulating on benches, it’s accumulating elsewhere (bushes etc)
Yeah, that's what I thought too. (But it looks so tempting...)
They are aluminium seats.
Ah, that explains the shiny....
Friday flat cam shows some flakes....
Thought it would have too warm down there?
That frontal band hitting Baw Baw now with a temp from 2.4c to 0.6c in the last 5min
No. Terminal. Very ordinary with grass and rocks apparent everywhere.
I observe heaviest rain of the day just started at the high perch over Tumba , temps hovering between +/-0.4 for the last 4 hours , wind still strong but gusty from the WNW.
Perisher 1.1 degrees top and bottom, where is that cold air?
I observe I am getting annoyed with this whole pre-frontal temp rise thing. #Snowxiety
Stay on topic
I observe caged bears peering at pouring r@!n near QT Falls Creek, trying to spot flakes and failing.
Top to bottom at Thredbo today,
☔️ r#!n that is....
Hit Baw Baw about an hour ago. Falls/Hotham in the next hour, NSW in the next 1.5-2 hours, but should see snow on the LIVE cams in the next hour or so given the higher ele/and range impacts IMO.
Mt William down to 1.7C
Floaty flakes on High Noon.
I'll go check. I can't get any wetter.
I left Buller about 2pm was sleeting hard, still a net gain from this storm before the good stuff hits in a few hours.
I think thredbo’s anemometer flew off going by obs.....
My old man ( an Austrian lad - who skiied perisher and Thredbo since the 60's ), used to live by two rules for the Australian alps..
1. Snow in May will never stay ( as almost proven again this year)
2. 16 and rain in Adelaide = equals snow in the alps. That was the only weather forecast he used to go by.
I observe he is sadly no longer with us
BawBaw just dropped to zero
Steady snow of High Noon, Thredbo now.
Been a beautiful mild Spring Winters day here in Sydney. Windy, but otherwise can't complain.
Had everything here today at hotham.
Rain, snow and mix.
Probably more rain but
Minimal damage to the snow. In fact it was heavy but felt base building.
Snowing heavy now up at village level, feels like it should improve a lot from here
There was nothing on Wednesday.
Now there is 20cm natural even with the rain.
It's definitely net gain.
Still mix/rain in Buller village. An hour or two and we will be seeing the fruit.
Starting to see the sleet becoming more snow like at Buller.
Looks to be snowing hard blue cow live cam
Snowing hard at Mid Perisher and sticking. Still windy as... looking forward to getting dry soon.
I observe two kids discovering that mud isn't quite as slidable as snow.
Cool rainbows outside Yea
Rain is turning solid and just had a full minute of snow at Falls Creek.
I observe that there isn't a lot of choice on that hill...
It's snowing right now at Buller. Wet but we have snow now. It's coming down solidly.
Edit:back to sleet.
@POW_hungry . The sky today driving into Jindy. Camera worthy.
Incredible clouds. Deep purple.
Tossled torn by the crazy winds.
Snow is funny. Its not really the temp at the ground but above that matters. The guess guides show 500hpa to be -16 at 4pm whereas tomorrow at 7am its -28c.. The 750hpa will is -6 and should be -12 in the morning.. We will get snow, depends on the moisture now. Looking for that.
It's good to see the countryside up that way looking nice and green. Great pics
Yeah it’s definitely green but Eildon is still empty.
Rainbow was incredibly vibrant, didn’t really come out in the pics.
Some decent rainfalls in the NE with this system. Buffalo is closing in on 100ml, Buller (sadly in this context) has had 49mm, much of which sounds like has been clear. Just need follow up systems with plenty of moisture (and preferably cold air to accompany them).
A cloud of horizontal white precipitation on the Blue Cow Live cam. The other perisher cams don't do it justice
