I observe that Victorians are calling this storm a semi-fizzer so far, relative to what was forecast. But NSW seems to have done better with significant accumulation on the many runs above 1800. Only have to look at the Michael’s Mistake cam at Thredbo to see that. Will report from the hill tomorrow

I think -4.1 and precipitation at Perisher just might be real snow. Snow was accumulating nicely late yesterday at marginal temps and we have had cold temps overnight. Will still have 'unmarked hazards' but I think some good skiing will be had by tomorrow.

Driving up from omeo yesterday evening at 8:00pm the rain turned to at 1280m and was settling on the road at 1500m.

Ski packing a tent site at JB plain last night the fesh snow was damp. This morning my ski tracks were filled in, probably 15cm or so between 10:00pm and 6:30am. Its has been snowing non stop relatively dry snow at Hotham since I got up at 6:30am.

I observe some very nice Aussie powder on a certain Thredbo black run we lapped 7 times. Good quality nearly all the way to the bottom. Still snowing lightly at 12.30

I think the would Fizzer is unfounded here. We are looking at Perisher and it seems we have received what was forecast. Another 2 nights yet..

Hey Yosh, depends on what you want to do. Even though there is snowmaking, 5 cm is not a great deal of snow. The weather forecast is for showers / snow - which might make it pretty uncomfortable if its the former, and you don't have the right gear for the kids. If you're locked in to school holidays due to sporting commitments, then I'd go, because it's unlikely to be snow come the September holidays. August is probably more reliable, and if you've got some flexibility and don't mind taking the kids out of school, then I'd watch for the next big dump, and head up a day or two after during the week.

Still snowing up at Hotham. Hasn’t stopped all day! Snow guns are on lower in HV, although swindlers trail guns were off when I went by around 12, slalom and lower imagine still blasting+ sun run and basin.

Patrol are working hard out there and I wouldn’t be surprised if the whole HV area was open tomorrow, that’s what they’re aiming for. Haven’t heard anything about extra lifts.

For us Eucumbene folk, this was certainly a major fizzer. Not much better than a dusting, in fact!

The westerly component, this time around, was very weak; I had much heavier snowfall back in May earlier this year than now—when it was a classic South-Westerly polar front, as opposed to this one.

Photos will have to wait until better conditions eventuate, I'm afraid.

The way this front has come in is pretty different, seen a lot of these big fronts hits the Ballan / Daylesford area tracks across the outer Melbourne burbs then dumps VIC fields then NSW.

Daylesford cold but has missed a lot of the rain.

What are you doing down there? Long and hard walk up, and I can say that because I have done it.

Now comments of graupel are a bit of a lol. Got heaps of the dry stuff.

My guage out the front says 15cm since yesterday, and 6cm since 8am this morning.

Got first tracks on LBS, and fresh ones on Wombat. Even went on my own bushwhack out Howqua way.

For those asking they were grooming Boomerang and the Chute off Koflers. @Jarryboy snowmaking was occurring at Koflers, Wombat, Chamois and I'd reckon Burnt Hut too.

I'd assume they would open Koflers tomorrow, and Summit and Howqua Monday probably. Plenty of activity in that part of the resort.

10-15cm of freshies, free refills, more terrain opening soon but it's still a fizzer according to some!

    Day of my season IMO.

Not necessarily .. not sure what’s with the negativity here..
don’t see anyone calling it a prolific dump... but the conditions are much better than 2 days ago! I know with the current weather there are many folk having much more fun than us skiing fresh cold snow ..
where do you think we are .. Hokkaido??
Single figure temps and coldies passing on Malvern has me envious of all the people skiing today ...

Snow plough out early today on the Omeo Hwy. Not a huge amount to clear but it is only 1350m. Can imagine the Great Alpine Road would have had more but ploughs could have been out through the night to keep it open for the day.

Mate, while I think the system isn't as good as it was promised, it definitely is not a fizzer either.

For me, visibility is not an issue when the snow is falling down, which is what's happening in the picture you attached above. If it's that bad, you can always go down to the bottom or to the trees.

It appears that the Central and Southern Tablelands were even worse-off from this fizzer event...100% for the peaks and escarpments of the southern snowies, and a fizzer elsewhere. Bugger me sideways.

Well, since this is indeed a skiing forum, I can certainly see why there have been minimal complaints.

Yep there was some big expectations for this event, but how can anything that is not rain be a disappointment. Vic was always predicted to be less than NSW but even so....

Have had a Rtn call from Lake Mtn (great service by the way!). - word is skiing will be a goer tomorrow - my take - mainly for those on wider skis. Possibly some grooming.

Watch VicRoad site it's snowing a fair way down the hill - I reckon fallen trees again (rather than deep snow) is bigger risk to mtn opening tmrw.

    Cheers,
    SG
