My observations on some of the PV resort snow conditions post last nights snow and those winds but centred on the area between Front Valley and Mt P. Others would need to comment on elsewhere. 1. 20 cms a fair average number. 2. Areas out of the winds from the past few days skied ok. Not Powder and not glug. Quite good especially in sheltered areas amongst the trees. Sun Valley had some good skiing however the coverage was not consistent. 3. From the base of Eyre the snow looked fine. Once up a little higher there was a large amount of widespread sastrugi. The wind had been sweeping across the hill so anywhere exposed suffered. Even at lower levels. 4. Wind drifts were a hazard for the unwary. In the picture above, and about 40 metres higher than the orange cone, we came across a guy, face down in the snow and unable to move. Hit one of those drifts and looks like he suffered breaks to both legs. He’s a local so I can check in his condition later this evening. Basic first responder administered till the arrival of the patrollers and later on the ambos. 5. Just out of bounds the snow was in good shape. Well packed and easy skiing. Plan to go for a deeper look and ski tomorrow a.m. on touring kit. 6. It was busy around Mt P and Leichhardt.
