I think it will, moisture is curling around and coming in from the west (Buller will not like) and as the system moves further east, Buller , LM and Baw Baw should do well.

This low is in the perfect position.

The low will head SE. The cloud on the south and western flanks will wrap around and hit the mountains. After that we will be in a SW, then S stream on the western flank of the low, which will provide cold wet conditions. (IMO [IMG] )

Temps starting to drop off nicely at PB.
Barometer still going south. So eye of low still coming.
Cam shows light snow still. A site confirm would be nice.
Once the lows eye passes, should be some heavier falls. IMO.

Looks like it's starting to snow a little on the Buller village cam.

I don't think the folks who live in the West of Victoria would agree with you.

It snowed steadily (albeit lightly) all afternoon up at blue cow. Dry snow on summit, and wet snow at the bottom of the ridge chair. Temp definitely below zero with pole straps and jacket stiff with ice.

Now back at perisher valley, and still lightly snowing.

Snowed lightly pretty much all day in Thredbo village, but no accumulation. Richard reporting 20-30cm up on the hill above around 1600m.

Is this system slightly different WRT westerly flow and Buller since it's pulling in such a tight spiral from the south. (I bloody well hope so - I'd slash my wrists if it starts raining there tonight)

This is not the classic westerly flow for Buller. As the low progresses east, the direction will change so it's not a bad scenario for Buller.

Not as much precipitation on the VIC radar as I would like to see but some moisture is building over NW TAS so I wouldn't unplug the network cable and curl up in the corner of the room just yet. [IMG]

Buller is too. Some good accumulations there.

Hopefully the other resorts reap the rewards later aswell.

That 'vein' that was pumping the Otways earlier today has picked back up again, if the low starts to shift east tonight it will hopefully funnel more into the alps. The lower part of the low is still sucking up moisture from that massive mass in the Tasman, and linking up with cold are from the cold front Sandy mentioned earlier today, could be a good set up for early tomorrow morning into dayling tomorrow.

    Yes, more to come.
I'm thinking 20cm for Buller, but I can see that figure being +/- 10cm

Just look at the satellite loop. Lots of goodness to come.

    Clicky

The best bits look like they are still over Cape Grim in Tasmania - expect them to rotate around to hammer us!

Been raining for hours here at 810m just east of Canberra with 2C predicted overnight in Canberra. 12.5mm yesterday, 15.5mm this morning and another 9mm in the gauge. Around 580mm in less than 8 months this year compared with 486mm in 2009. What's happening in the mountains?

Do you reckon that rotation will deliver anything in NSW?

Looks to favour Victoria more particularly the more western mountains like Buller as you mentioned.

Temps hovering just below 0C here in Thredbo Village, with very light, scattered snow showers settling on the ground and no wind. It was snowing lightly all afternoon with snow settling around 1500m. Only a couple of cm at best.
We are desperately in need of some more moisture, the snow is generally pretty heavy or wind-scoured. Another 5cm+ would be much appreciated.

I'd expect so, but it will increasingly favour the southern resorts as it moves east.
