Perisher got a 1cm dusting last night??? Either no one saw it coming or it wasn't significant enough to mention. Also I observe on the Thredbo Village cam, is that snow on the left hand side where the "Pedestrians Watch Your Step" sign is?
It is quite nice and warm (and wet) outside in Perth right now! Taken a few minutes ago of the Narrows
That's a lot of rain and cloud. Luckily I was there a couple of weekends ago instead - weather wasn't too bad! Still, I reckon at lot of this moisture will disappear by the time it gets over east anyways... IMO.
cold tonight in the mountains -9c at the bottom of the Quad at Perisher at the moment. Must say we are having an epic snow making season....
Coldest it's been thsi winter in the SE subs of Melb last night and this morning. Heavy frost out east.
I observe that the air mass now over Perth/WA is quite cold; temps there at the moment around 10-11C. Needless to say there is also a bucketload of moisture to go with it! The H off the east coast is s-l-o-w-l-y moving east (good) and there doesn't appear to be any H ridging across from the west...as yet. Maybe, just maybe, the set-up isn't looking too bad at the moment (but that can all change quickly too)
Still Doesnt feel that cold in perth, although temp is apparently only 11 ... feels warmer. A crapload of rain and hail overnight. My rain guage hit 41.5 mm (nearly identical to the official total! ) Still a lot of rain around, and the second cold front looks like it will hit Perth CBD any second (judging by the radar). Just doesnt feel that great for you guys ... dunno why.
mLAPS is projecting 850 temps of 4-6(ie in Buller Village) around midnight. Currently 1.3. Anything below 4 overnight would be a win IMO, but it's on track for those temps at the moment.
i observe it has been very strange weather at sydney airport,i have worked there for 22 years and have seen some wild weather, but its never been this cold and wet at the same time, usually cold mornings and beautiful winter days or wet and warm days???
am observing that today has still been extremely cold, wet and periods of hail here in Perth, and we are experiencing the front that will hit Victoria on Sunday. lets hope that if its cold enough to hail in perth, it snows in victoria. Does anyone know of any corelations while I am at it ?
Its predicted to move from NW to SE so cold part of system will not likely give much in vic nsw Temps rising by a couple of degrees throughout SA now
I observe that when the rain hit Adelaide the temps dropped significantly, down 4.4 degrees in 3 hours. Was to be expected, if it doesn't go back up again we get a bit excited. From the latest sat it looks like the alps will cop a bit. Not the full brunt but a bit more than we maybe first thought. Hold onto your hats
Indeed. Took all week for the clothes to dry on the line and last nights are dry already! Very mild-but expected of course..
I can observe that it is raining heavily in Hamilton, and BoM observations show a nice temp drop as the rain hit
very interesting so far Weatherzone from yesterday for Mt Buller was going for temps @6 degrees for today...but they've backed that off to 3 degrees @ 9pm tonight...currently subzero. Temp downgrades always welcome.
Lets just hope pressure stays high to limit the rain. Falls / Buller in the +'ves. May be very Ugrly soon.
well the first band on the radar passed over with not a drop at Buller. Very windy and a few lifts have been on wind hold at varying stages. Not even thinking about going out. The crowds are unbelievable.
Some occasional showers so far here at Wandin , the wind has really been gusting hard at times this morning.
moisture just arriving at Buller and, dare I say it, it's bordering on white stuff. Few flurries in the Village mixed in with a bit of sleet. Should be snowing further up. Not much in it at the moment though
I know everyone's calling warm and wet...but it's still subzero at Hotham and around the mark at Buller. No hairdryer(yet) These temps and the rain were not forecast for this time on any of the preceeding models.(well none that I read) It will probably warm up a little more, but 1 degree rain with an apparent temp of -14 isn't a sunny day in the mountains.
0.4 + deg . at 1.40 P.M. (hottest part of the day) . So far , so good, only a little rain . Just got to get past the next couple of hours , losing as little snow as we can . The temp has remained almost stable (fluctuating by not more than 1 deg.) Evening cool down can't come quick enough , although observing the previous observations the temp may very well dip . Just got to get to the point of zero QUICKLY .
no...mountain weather is very different...can rise a few degrees even around midnight if a cold front is approaching pushing warm stuff in front, and of course with temperature inversion.
there's really been very little rain up here at Buller, but the wind is out of control so that will be doing a lot of damage.
Looking out my window now at Hotham, it is extremely windy, pouring with r*** and absolutely zero visibility. Temps still seem a little high for snow i think, although still seems freezing outside. Can definitely see some damage already started with some areas showing some dirt with this consistent dreaded r***
I observe that the BOM synoptic for 10am this morning looks rather impressive, could be the most fronts I have seen on a chart ever!!
