true neslot not having a go at you,but i observe that for some reason{have been going there for over 30 years},but it seems to usually snow in the village at thredbo on snow occasions like this..think the cold air must sink down the valley or something.

Either way, the Thredbo village cam is starting to look real nice. It's not too often you get good accumulations in there as it melts pretty quick, and at the moment it's settling and building nicely.

Also, Perisher Yabby Flats cam showing some nice change on the timelapse. The fence in front of the snow gun was showing 3 slats clear yesterday, and now we're starting to lose the second one under snow. A good 15-20cm height difference there, and at the current rate plus some snowmaking that fence could be down to 1 slat by the morning.

Thredbo often is cooler in the village than on the hill for exactly that reason... [IMG]

Yep temperature inversion can be great!

Looks like it's hovering between rain/snow atm.

I realize it's heated around there, but I think rain/sleet is playing a factor [IMG]

I noticed that as well. I am sure there is a bit from snowmaking but I think we are getting some very good accumulations ATM. Precip on AWS has gone from 10mm at 4pm to 17.8mm at 7.30pm. Has increase 1.4mm in 1/2 hour so it is getting heavier.

Phil, I think you're right, in that pic it's slowed down a little. But fear not, there's a whole bunch on the radar heading straight for Buller at the moment, and it looks like there's a bit more to come behind that too. Nice to see.

More on the way for the southern resorts, it might not look like it on the radar but when I look outside here in Carrum Downs, there's lots of dark stuff up there headed that way. Been raining here for hours now,,, its a huge cloud band!

I observe that this system has been an absolute beauty!!! 50mm-100mm of rain for Eildon, Hume Thompson etc......, great damn filler/pasture enricher our poor old "sick to death of the 12 year drought" farmers, minimal loss of natural cover due to the worst natural snow start and best artificial snow start to the season in years, then brilliant cold moisture feeds from both directions NW and SW, and the last of the juicy stuff barreling straight up the divide from NE Melbourne to Thredbo I observe that's a win in my book any day of the week. Throw in the fact we could see 48 hour accumulations of 30-60cm, plus a multitude of steeper descents becoming closer to ridable, I am not sure why dudes are blueing over those little pebbles in Buller Square!!! We only get a handfull of 40cm+ systems a season, so let's all smile, soak it up and thank mother nature for delivering in our hour of need. I observe happy Webcam viewers in their thousands tomorrow at 7am. [IMG]

    BULLER is copping it!

Last half hour: Winds have shifted SW, temps have dropped 1C, and it looks like 2cm or so has fallen.

If you are reading that from the BOM totals they are extremely hard to judge through Blizzard like conditions. If you go off this Thredbo has had none since 1am this morning.

Even the readings will be a bit hard to judge right, as there will be windblown stashes in various spots, whether these are where they take the measurements or not, who knows!

Perisher is accumulating around 2 -3 cm an hour in the last few hours and the radar is showing more on the way. We are probabaly around 30cm since it started so a 40+cm system is not out of the question by the end of tomorrow. Radar looking good for the next 3 -4 hours and then looks like it will ease off. Will all look ood in the morning

looks like there is another line of storms approaching Bright about now, if they keep on the same track, they will hit the main range. just hope theres enough moisture still in them by then.
