based on the village square cam, looks like about 10-15cm at buller today with a few cm up in the last hr or so. nice but not season defining, and unless something magical happens in the next 12 hrs, unlikely to reach the 30-40 predicted by many. looking at the radar, that big blue, yellow, orange band has nearly passed the strike zone....might have run out of weeties just at the wrong time. some moderate falls coming htrough easter subs of Melb now which might line up. looking much more few and far between now though...

we have a winner [IMG] just on the phone to jnr LTB now and made him go onto the balcony (where the cam is) with a ruler and the average depth is 22cm in the middle of the balcony (ranges from low 17cm to 30cm highest)

I observe the big band that went through vic resorts looks headed straight for nsw resorts, albeit, in a weaker form.

That'd be from Junior LTB I suspect but it'd be reliable enough.
Looks about right on VS cam curved steps we gauge from nearby too.

Rain on the roof in Melbourne.

Djon's site is pretty good as it overlays the satellite and the composite radar, so you can see beyond the reach of the radar: http://www.theweatherchaser.com/radar/Loop_AusSat

By looking at that I reckon there is still some juice in this baby.

I don't think the Dinner Plain cam is updating. Like I know that time is updating, but unless those people have sat there for the last half hour, it's just the same pic over and over.

Agree from looking at the radar it should start to let up with snow showers continuing till the morning. Bit of pot luck as to where will get the most out of the last of the system....

Buller and Hotham reporting 25cm for last 24 hours (better than the 15 I was expecting) and NSW resorts reporting 30 cm for the same period which is on expectations.

Thredbo looking awesome this morning. a few light fliurries continues but nothign that will add to dump. looking up the hilol, antons could probly open this morning but no doubt they;re waiting for a few nmore holes to fill. sponars will need one more dump for sure. can;t see basin from village. whole mountain looks generally fantastic. there was extrememly heavy dumpage between 6 and pm last night that left 5cm in two hours. i have a lift ticket and am primed to totally rip up this hill.

only one problem... i am teaching my three year old to ski at bottom of hill today. d'OH. I mean, woohoo, sort of.

I hardly slept last night as I could hear the rain beating on the roof. I knew it meant one of 2 things - heavy heavy rain at LM if the temp wasn't low enough, or, 30cm snow. I was worried it was the former. But it was the latter [IMG] Still tired though.

    Re: Observations: 8th - 16th July 2010

I observe that my snowometer is working well. I could see quite a nice amount of snow on the Brindies this morning, but not reaching around to Mt Coree, which gave me a figure of 30cm for the mainrange, backed up on the Thredbo site. When it gets all the way around to Coree I know its 50cm.

Brindies would be worth a ski for the next few days IMO, but I think I will head for Thredders [IMG]

Heard heavy rain in Canberra in the wee small hours, but my windscreen was frozen, and the sky clear, when I headed off to work.

A little hard to say when the "24 hour" started, but most of the larger resorts had around 5cm on their 6am reports yesterday.

Currently observing on WZ there was a landslide on the Great Alpine Rd near Bright thanks to the torrential downpour on Tuesday night - I bet there's some p'd off people who can't get up the hill for a pow day! 200mm at Mt Buffalo, that must be close to some sort of record?

You made the right call mate. Dream Run, schuss... forget it, not enough. Michaels, FW, Bluff were all ok up high, bit of an effort getting out of FW though. Don't think it will clear up enough for a tour today, so tomorrow will be the pick for out back.

The snow was ok, but pretty wind affected, but it hasn't really filled in as much as I thought it would have. Skiing on top of the bushes did make it feel lighter and deeper though. [IMG]

Great example of direction affecting mountain weather. The southerly wind has it still snowing on the southern end of the range (Thredbo), while the sun is out just 10km north at Perisher.

One for the kiddies to remember the next time there is a southerly system and people complain Thredbo overreports the snow because they got twice as much as Perisher.
