Falls has reported 30cms, considering they had a few runs already covered, they should be opening up a few more this weekend. [IMG]

Just got to Perisher. Looks to be about 10-20cm, way more in the windy stashes. Snow and chains from Wilsons Valley.

It rained consistently for about 30 hours here in the SE subs, now that's been replaced with heavy, consistent showers. Havent had any hail yet but I dont think it's too far off. The flow has changed with the low passing and this is where BB/Buller/LM can get a bit of an advantage over the others, although I still think Hotham/Falls will get the most snow today.

2nd hand info tells me it's snowing light and steady at Buller this morning but in this social media age I never quite believe anything.

Still snowing at falls having done so all night, but bigger flakes of an hour ago have given way to the lighter stuff for now

Doesn't look like 20cm in the village but I'm yet to really get out and explore

Are chains required for 4x4? We'll be driving in on Sunday in a 4x4 Hilux with AT tyres, would chains be recommended or enforced?

1st time at Perisher but had a few NZ seasons where sometimes chains are required for 2wd but not 4wd and sometimes all vehicles, so not sure of local policies and conditions

In NSW you wont need chains for 4WD. Doesn’t mean you wont go off the road though! Drive carefully and don’t brake on the downhills.

Perisher collecting 40mm of water, may not translate into 1:10 of snow, but seeing that the temp was only just below freezing, I'll happily take it, Thredbo not collecting anything possibly because they had winds of 50-80km/h most of the night with gusts of 120km/h!!

    Off topic

Wot he said! If you are not extremely comfortable driving on snow covered roads, they might be a good idea any way! You basically gotta drive the same speed as the chained car in front of you [IMG]

You don't need them for a 4WD but I always carry some on my AWD since I nearly went off the road on the Alpine Way at the start of last year. Be Careful!

Perisher claiming 25cm up to and 20cm at mid station. Temp at the bottom of the ridge chair is only -0.4 so hopefully the temps don't increase much.

Does anyone know what the current snow level is on the Kosci Rd up to Perisher?

Perisher is about boot deep most places, looks great but a bit heavy. In the leeward slopes you can find maybe 50 cm. still snowy pretty consistently but more pellets than flakes. Update again later on

Baw Baw reporting 12cm... looks more like 15 to 20cm going by the cams. Hopefully snow will keep falling in the cold SW winds.

Flood warnings out for the Latrobe River making travel difficult, from what I've heard.

Hail embedded in this next rainband hitting the alps now, could produce some very good falls in isolated locations.

How annoying is that advertisement on Perisher.. you used to be able to see a little creek/markers for memory, which was awesome to see snowfall comparison.

I observe a freezing level of 1600m for NSW, based on Perisher weather data.

Damp and cold, only 8.2°C in the city at 11:30am and 2.8°C at Mount Lofty which would probably put the freezing level a touch over 1000m. Thats alot of deep cold wet air heading east from us.

will be interesting how the BOM draw up their forecast maps this arvo to see how they figure it'll travel. My reading of events is the front is still pushing up and hasn't started to "sling" out into the tasman yet which bodes well for dragging that cold adelaide goodness into NSW resorts tomorrow , rather than sending it to the CT or beyond. IMO
