I observe it is pissing down and bloody cold (car windows are cold to touch!) at the Canberra turn off just after Goulburn, just now. Was dry at Goulburn
To be fair, it has been raining all day in the upper BMs, and temps are just dropping to zero now. Black ice is a real possibility tonight.
Snowing at Buller. Very white drive up mountain. Dusting just above Mirimbah. Good cover at white bridge. Looks to be 20-30 fresh on south side.
Just drove back from Goulburn to Crookwell. Hit blizzards on the way. Not much snow accumulation yet though fields turning white. Snowing in Crookwell. Bitterly cold outside.
It was more "only in Australia could we possible have snow and a bushfire in the same area at the same time!
Through the snow cams, I observe a posse of Hotham Patrollers gathered at the base of Black Snake. They seem to be admiring their lines down the hill.........lucky buggers!
I observe its been a great read of the events today via this thread. I also observe Selwyn has done pretty damn well today. I went up for a looksee and even had a run down Racecourse. All systems go at Selwyn tomorrow. I just saw a report (SkyWeather) saying Perisher has had 50cm with possibly 1 metre ( yep thats what they say) up high. Possible ?
Thredbo is reporting 60cm, temps look pretty good over the next week for some solid snowmaking. Exciting times.
Started snowing at 4.30pm here in Nimmitabel. Dumped for about half an hour. Paddocks went from green to white with about 4cm settling. Now just lightly snowing.
Observing from my back verandah near Tumbarumba some very tasty looking low black blobs heading to the hills. Oddly shaped stuff it is , like someone carrying a bag of balls in a netted bag. Wind backing off a little , damn cold ( not hiking down to the machinery shed to find out how cold) with the odd passing shower. It appears I have seen these very same clouds earlier today , dunno but just a feeling , very familiar shapes.
Starting to get a nice layer on the ground around Lithgow. Just went for a drive and the snow level reached around 820metres.
Not seeing it. Moisture just about gone few cm maybe before midnight. Then a cracker of a day tomorrow.
Not 100% sure it was fantastic, certainly 15-20, but not getting in the gauge or on the cams. Estimate of coverage now around 94cm
Made it to Island Bend in the ol' corolla (chains from wilsons v but only needed from rennies gap to the bridge halfway down the guthega road) currently chilling in the tent. About 10cm at IB and still snowing on and off. Doesn't feel too cold yet imo...the SO feels the cold more than me and is fine.
I am no way near the snowfall but still loving it for those who can!!............maybe a little bitter!!!!!!
7pm. BOM has Buller at -5.6, Pole Plant's Apira cam reporting -4.5. If only there was a big, fluffy bag of moisture to go with it!
Not sure if anyone has already observed this but here goes...... Perisher reporting 48cm in past 24 hours, 66cm over the past 7 days
Driving down from Blackheath at 5pm was snowing down to Lawson (approx. 750m ASL). Couldn't believe it. Bout 2cm on the ground from Blackheath to Leura and thinned out from there
Getting rather chilly in Melbourne metro area. 4.8 on our AWS, I see Ferny Creek down to 1.6 It is drying up though. Showers over the Dandies though, fair chance of snow there now.
@Claude Cat can we please save this thread for next season so when everyone is suffering from SDS saying "why is it still warm on June 1st it should be snowing" and "this is a crap start to the season", we can pull it out and show what can happen in as little as 4 days?
