Pretty sure weather never gets purged. Only the value-less forms like CV, Bear Pit, Convo etc got purged, and I even think they stay now since the new software upgrade as the DB is a lot better.
Observed a nice white coating over Donna Buang on the way home. Sitting around 5 deg with an off the chart windchill and passing showers blowing through. who'd live in the tropics.
Snowy hydro report 43.4 on Thursday morning , they had 38.6 to 9am today + 11.6 till now , allowing for settle and wind blow.. 90
Allowing for some compaction around 80 at SC. With the wind there will be wind scared areas of 5cm and drifts of 150cm in places. For Perisher some work to do pushing out and marking cornices (sun bowl would be massive and dangerous). Plenty of work to do and the boys and girls will be busy tomorrow. Hope there is a little more in this system.
Doubt it. My parents are at Wonboyn which is 20km south and they would have told me if it was snowing there
I was dubious too. Should have looked a bit closer, that Edenland person is based on Katoomba. Egg on my face
Nope, just had a bit of a look at google earth. Couldn't find those buildings in Edan, so looked at Katoomba. Yep Edwards street.
I think this system is finished for Perisher now its gone SW, maybe a little bit left for Tbo. and a bit more for Vic. resorts.
Just arrived in Thredbo. I am very glad we aborted our first camping trip planned for the diggings this weekend! It was snowing lightly from the park gates to the village and the road was quite icy. The village is looking beautiful, guns blazing. Trust to be on the 1st lift tomorrow for a high noon warm up. Season starter, delivered.
With the reports and footage of snow in Lorne, can i ask where abouts this actually took place? Lorne if I'm not mistake is at, it's near enough as makes no difference, sea level yes? Meanwhile brisk back home in melbourne, definitely feels colder than canberra a few hours ago. Any gust of wind is cutting through 3 layers
Just off Erskine Falls road, which is a fairly steep rd that heads pretty right up the hill from Lorne.
FWIW it appears to still be snowing - or at least blowing around productively - in Smiggins right now. Road looks to be a little on the nasty side too.
@Ted Harper looking forward to some more obs coming whilst a Big S swell is due up here over the weekend
snow showers up and running at Buller again took a walk tonight - super cold at -6 BTW - 2 trees down on the road up due to water + snow weight - apparently now cleared
While battling the likely crowds I will post obs for sure. I will no doubt get gloating updates from my surfing friends (sigh).
The radar will show jack, as the captains flat radar is on the blink again and IIRC it covers the area that the resorts are in.
Mountains obscure the radar. Showers here in Melb now, as visible on the footy, SW flow still very much alive.
Weather app saying 7.5 degrees (feels like 4.7 degrees) for Terrey Hills. That's cold for here! (IMO)
By the cams, it looks to have cleared at Perisher - front valley, Mt P and Blue Cow are pumping snow guns, and they are easily seen. What a system!!
Interesting story in the SMH stating that SE Aus ocean temps are abnormally high for this time of year: +3C above the avg, hovering at 20-22C. I'm just wondering if that has a direct correlation on the intensity of the L that helped create that lovely W/SW flow we just experienced?
Dunno. But can confirm the water is still very warm..a couple hours from now I'll be back in it. By that time hoping to see many pics of snow.
Guns have not turned off since we arrived 2pm yesterday at PV. Should be an awesome cover this morning. Chilly at -8.2 at Mt P.
Bass straight 14 ish and the bight are pretty much normal ATM I think. The above average temps don't extend west of the prom
currently -7.8 at Thredbo. Cold here at the farm (Nimmitabel). I observe my house pipes are frozen....no running water!
-3 this morning in Mt Vic NSW, apparent -9. About 1cm settled snow from overnight, trees and lawns look pretty. Road is icy, and highway reported closed both directions until it warms up.
