Nice blob of moisture just crossing SA/Vic border at the coast. Just showing up on the radar too.

The visible band sure looks better than the near infrared.

    Still smacking into NZ though.

I just thought that we were going to cop an orographic snow fall event early this morning.

    It didn't really happen yet.

Got an orographic run event yesterday.
Not enough instability nor temp differential for orographic lifting.

Suns gone for the day in Jindy behind the bank of cloud over the range. Pretty breezy at the moment and expected to increase.

Just heard on the local radio a warning issued tonight for Jindabyne and Berridale for damadging winds.

Snow seems to have backed off at Hotham, after snowing steadily most of the day, pretty heavily at times. Morning was epic.

Yeah okay. What do you mean by not enough temperature differential? It may be true but I kind of thought there was a good change in temp last night. More so than than the previous night.

This phenomena kind of makes the difference in the dumpage. when it happens we get huge snow than when it doesn't we get a little bit. Something prevented a big orographic lift snow dump.

Maybe the moisture slid to the south.

    Who knows?

Only T's operating today at Perisher

Went to Guthega and had to be skidooed out as the cow t bar was shut around half eleven

Plenty of first tracks to be had in the tree runs but icy patches every where on groomed areas

On the way back Brumby T bar was also good (the only thing running at Blue Cow)

There certainly is plenty of snow cover

Good snow fall most of the day at falls, between the trees was epic. Very windy on top with some nasty ice patches to avoid.

This picture was taken at 8:15 this morning while driving from Thredbo to Jindy. It was taken around 1200 metres. It gives a good visual indication of where the snow line was at that time.

Just been out and about in Jindy still blowy with light rain blowing off the hill at about 6c.

Moisture still accumulating in the Perisher gauge so I would think its still snowing down to about 1300m.

The wife and I have just driven up today from Merimbula after a overnight trip away from the snow, and was suprised by the temp difference down on the coast, even on the way back the difference between the temp in Candelo and then the drive up Brown Mountain to Nimmitabel(dist=62km) was quite remarkable ,why is this so,is it mainly due to the difference in altitude or a different weather pattern as you drive up the great dividing range .

Both. I think you struck an extremely cold pool of air from a front coming through, and you can always get a 6 degree temp drop coming up from Candelo to the top. Snow has been seen around the top of Brown Mtn and on into Nimmitabel. [IMG]

Snow on the ranges. The hills with white out the back are on the western edge of the ACT. Snapped on my morning stroll... Tuggeranong ACT. 8:10am, 8-9-12.

Very damp snow here, the mushroom is all pockmarked where the wet snow is smashing the fresh. Interestingly i just shovelled the verandah to the spit and underneath the fresh is slush, usually would be hard ice. Must be the rain, then borderline temps not low enough to set it.

Yep similarly at Buller the rained on crust from before the snow is now pretty soft too, so it didn't freeze hard.

Quite showery here in Melbourne this afternoon. Feels real spring like.
