The last big system told us that direction is everything. This appears to be a W to SW strike so lots of the snow will end up blown around the corner from the measuring area again. At the risk of being very wrong i'll say 220cm.

The snow plough will have its work cut out for it when they try to open the road to C.Pass in October.

IMO I think the depth will be underwhelming given the fact that the snow that has fallen has been at such cold temperatures and the gale force winds will have blown it around a lot

    Going for 226cm

I think we would have lost 20 from last week in the pre front hair drier, so starting from a base of 169 with 100cm+ having fallen, some wind and compaction, Im going for 245cm.

With a little more to come next week maybe, it's crazy to think we are realistically looking at a 2.5m season, possible much more. I never thought we'd see such depths again.

Still a little bit behind 2004 for deep creek.

    Deep Creek 2017 = 99.4 cm

    Deep Creek 2004 = 136 cm

For the same date spencers is higher 50 cm higher this year.

This reflects the dumps we had in July 2017 that were not that windy compared to your typical wind blow favoring Leeward slopes and the higher alpine areas got better coverage than normal for July.

May be should start up a snow depth record for the whole Snowies. Chuck in some pits for July Avies.

I would say the over reliance on the Spencer's creek snow depth to measure trends in snow season using regression analysis, does not tie into any general climate theory, unless it goes cupoot.

IMO you would need maybe 30 snow profiles over 100 years to correlate with subtle variations in climate in the southern ocean.

Interesting. 1992 did have the benefit of global cooling due to Mt Pinatubo blowing up the year before. Both 1992 and 1984 had very similar SOI values and trends to this year.

Based on the latest model runs, if you were a betting man, I'd say 262cm is close but quickly becoming out of reach. IMO.

Reading was taken on the 13th before yesterday's and overnight 20cm+. Further snow up high today then snow tomorrow and if we see a little top up Tuesday then the 262cm from 2000 could easily fall!.

Perisher have reported 18cm since the measurement on Wednesday which brings it to over 255, then another 20-40cm forecast over next couple days (275-295cm).
With not as much compaction as last week(the snow might not be as dry), and sun/warm wind and hopefully another early Wednesday reading we may have between 235-285cm.
I reckon we will get a new peak, but will just miss out on passing the 262 mark.

    My prediction 257cm
