As was suggested in this thread, it would be a great idea to have a quick daily swing-buy to meet up & ski with other forum users, without complicated pre-arrangements.

I'm opening this to Falls Creek fans for a discussion on the best/most convenient place for such a meet up point:

Location: Lorna Dunkley shelter is: it's the weird multi-sided building near the top of Eagle and Scott chairs.
Time: 10:30am

In good weather, meet outside near the entrance to the shelter; in poor weather, meet inside. Preferably both indoor & outdoor locations are in the same vicinity.

Please use this thread to discuss the most suitable location for the meet-up point, and also eventually to post if you are planning on making it, and if so what you are wearing, but as the idea takes off I think we may end up with a bit of a community who are keen for skiing buddies & to show members around that are unfamiliar with the mountain.

Like Carveman and Planks & Sticks, I hope this works out as it'll be great not having to make complicated arrangements (in advance), and people knew if they were at a loose end, they could always go to the meeting point and there might be other people there who wanted to ski/board/tele. I also think it's a perfect way to put faces to the names online and build a bit of a Falls Creek community.

Re: Official Falls Creek Moosh Meet-Up Point

I would like to kick this off with a couple of suggestions.

Firstly, an issue that Falls Creek mooshers will have is that the 2 best places to meet are on opposite sides of the mountain. (Village Bowl and Cloud 9)

I would like to put both suggestions out there:
1. Cloud Nine, inside or outside the Cafe at the top
2. Village Bowl, inside or outside the Frying Pan

Bring on the suggestions!!!

Re: Official Falls Creek Moosh Meet-Up Point

Cloud 9 is a pretty congested area.

I'm wondering if top of Eagle could be better, with an option to shelter in the Lorna Dunkley building if weather is bad.

Problem is that there is no point that is convenient for beginners, intermediates and advanced. Top of Eagle probably comes closest.

Otherwise, maybe you need 2 points for different standards/snow conditions.

Personally, if conditions are good, I'm not very likely to be on drovers as asb suggests.

FWIW, I'll be up there from 20th~24th July. If meetings are still going on, I'll be there.

Is there some kind of Moosh secret handshake or whistle?

Re: Official Falls Creek Moosh Meet-Up Point

Lorna Dunkley's Shelter is a good idea as all standards of skiers can get there easily, for beginners at the Falls Creek Express end of town all they need do is go to the top and head down the Home Trail (Broadway)to Eagles and back up.

Inside the shelter is good as its so rarely used if there is someone in there at that time there is a good chance they are a Moosher / Snowatcher / ASB Alpiner.

I vote Lorna Dunkley Shelter

Hmm, never seen that Cafe - how new is that?
I assume it sets up somewhere near the Cloud 9 building? Or is it a bit down the mountain?

Shame we never noticed that during the trips we have been there - a mate that comes has a nickname of "Red" - would have been cool.

Big Red's is new this year. It's pretty much where wombats ramble goes off panorama/drovers.

Yeh but many of us may not want to hang around the town the reason I agreed Lorna Dunkley was a good suggestion was it is accesable in most conditions and rarely used so chances are if someone is waiting there they are who your looking for.

They need to put tables and chairs in the LD Shelter.

Re: Official Falls Creek Moosh Meet-Up Point

Hey guys. Thanks for all the feedback. It doesn't bother me where the meeting place is. But, the suggested shelter sounds good.

Personally, I'll be taking a group of 15 friends up 24th - 26th of August.

So closer to the time, will post and see whose going to be up there.

Oh, and no probs Slushii and S&P.

why not somethin similar to hotham's meetup - 2 times morning and arvo, could then have 2 meeting points? then we could have say the shelter and followed by fryingpan or at big reds?

For anyone that doesn't know what / where the Lorna Dunkley shelter is: it's the weird multi-sided building near the top of Eagle and Scott chairs. From there it is pretty easy to get to almost any lift.

Man, I've been going to Falls for years and I still don't know this. I know where the LD shelter is, very easy to find. But can you actually wait inside it. I have never seen anyone just walk in there.

On the other points - I agree with loklok, LD at 10.30am, but would make the 2.30 meet the same place unless everyone likes the FP idea. Thoughts. Comments?

Matt.

Re: Official Falls Creek Moosh Meet-Up Point

You can go inside LD Shelter, its a great spot when its really cold for a breeak from the weather. I think they should have tables and chairs in there and a few coin lockers so you could take lunch up there and leave it in a locker returning later to eat.

It was built with money left by Lorna in her will, she was the secretary at the lift company for many years in the early days. She left it for all skiers and hence why I believe it should be better used.

Righto, so everyone who goes up there needs to carry one chair purloined from their hotel. Couples can bring a small table.

That should upgrade the facility a bit!

Drink Jack Daniels in copious amounts and that should fix your falling down problems.. See ya there, we get then on Sunday Morning. 10.30 may be a bit early that day fro us to meet at LD but Monday should be fine. Just look for the hansom dude with Atomic Twin Tips. I'll be the one in front of him

Hi all. I'll be up on the 4th, 5th and 8th of August (heading to Hotham on the 6th and 7th) and would be keen to catch up with anyone who's up there.

Staying in Mt Beauty, so if anyone wants a lift up the hill... or over to Hotham on 6/7th.

Hopefully I'll catch some of you at the LD shelter @ 1030. Forecast is for blizzard this Friday with snow through the weekend = awesome Monday morning!

Re: Official Falls Creek Moosh Meet-Up Point

Anyone up at Falls this weekend?

I am heading up there for my first time as a bit of a change of scenery from the usual Hotham trips. Would be great to have someone to board/ski with and/or show me around the more advanced areas !

I am a fairly good boarder and will be looking to hit-up as many black runs as possible!
