Staying at the lodges just past the locked gate you have the choice of taking the stairs or hiking up to blue calf t-bar. For me, being the laziest skier in the world, it isn't much of a choice. Everybody who stayed in Guthega knew exactly how many steps there were but I've forgotten now.

I'm quite sure two of my mates were there. I have heard stories. There were quite a few good nights at Guthega over the years.
@dawooduck were you there as well?

I skied at Guthega in 1983 and saw Cold Chisel play at the Jindy Hotel (where I was deafened by standing too close to the front and still had ringing in my ears the following day). The Cold Chisel website (amazingly) lists gigs in Jindabyne on 5, 6 and 7 August 1983. I must have seen Cold Chisel on the Saturday night - 6 August.

But I don't believe I went to any Playboy bunny events...

I wasn't at the Playboy party but I was at the Cold Chisel gig and many after parties. There was also a Snow Ball with Steve Lee and Dawn Fraser.

I had a free pass to all the LJH gigs that year and I still have it with entry stamps etc.

It was a great time to be young and alive on the wrong side of the hill.

Smiggs crew where infamous party party people's. Guthega crew and Smiggs crew where of similar "ideology".

Whilst the Playboy bunnies came for an event the local girls out did them on every level all winter long.

That is all I am saying.

    Heidi's Party Central
Wildhaus(snowey gums) tried for Guiness world record for largest cocktail. Made a perspex cocktail glass that was 1500mm across, very under dressed lady sitting in it.

Was not at the party but was at Guthega that year and my mate and I did get to see some of them. It was second year working, still a bit of a dag so couldn't get to close to them.

Note the Playboy Bunny on the clothes

None of them could ski. They just walked around for awhile carrying them and posing for pics. Stayed at the Guthega Hotel and had a great time. Plenty of snow and no crowds, even with these ladies there.

Rear entry in a post about Playboy bunnies? Isn't that a specialty of a totally different magazine?

I am guessing the "bunnies" that were at the event would like to be able to still do that as well.

Just having another look at the image of the 'new' ski building and carpark lift at Guthega carpark, I can't help notice how many more trees there were. Was it fires, Dieback or humans that have wiped out so many trees?

While Karl isn't _entirely_ innocent (cough) of having done a bit of "pruning" here and there around the resort, the fire got really close to wiping out the "new" ski centre. The bottom platform of the double chair got scorched, then it ran up basically the line of Parachute - you can see the lack of trees and snow-catching foliage north of Parachute and between Parachute and Woodpecker - and then over the back of the hill towards Smiggins (where it ran across fortunately just north of the lodges, ie over behind the back of IMBAC and Snow Bunny/Lions' Lair). Also over on the other side of Guthega village that big gas cylinder behind the pub was at pretty severe risk of going up also.

A combination of everything including the great ice age weather event which broke a lot of trees followed by bushfire which finished them off.

Hi Ramshead, sorry. I just fell over this forum while managing a series of linked recoveries down memory lane. working at the Sundeck 79/80 and crashing all sorts of vehicles on the night drive n drink to Guthega when the Bourbon Boys owned the hotel in the early 80’s. Can’t recognize Perisher, Smigs or Guthega. Haven’t skied in Aus since 86. Missing those crazy pre tube times.
