    HI all,

Is anyone here keen for a bit of fun during the Olympics and having a tipping comp?

We could choose 2 competitors for each event (or nations for the teams event) and allocate points based on finishing position. I'm thinking 10 pts for first, 9 for second and down to 1 pt for tenth. But if anyone has ideas I am also happy to listen to suggestions.
Let me know if you're in and we'll start ASAP - men's downhill is this Saturday!

Sounds like fun, I'm in. I'll have a look at work tomorrow to see if I've got something cheesy I can donate as a prize.

Remember the Americans, an unheralded yank always gets up at the Olympics!!

Good idea. I'd be happy to have a go on the snowboarding because I know two parts of F' ALL about skiing.

It's like when the new person from overseas gets sucked in to the footy tipping and ends up winning!

I am motivated to get my head around it since learning that Henshaw is back in the team.

Great, it's on then. Would be good to have a few more, so if those who post in the World Cup thread regularly want to be in it, feel free (Heinz, sly karma??) and anyone else. As long as the tips are in before the actual start of each race.

Carveman, thanks for putting up a prize, (cheesy or not)

For POW_Hungry's sake, well include the snowboard cross as well, since we all know a few Aussies in that.

The schedule can be found here:
    www.pyeongchang2018.com/en/game-time/results/OWG2018/en/alpine-skiing/daily-schedule.htm

The website above also has start lists.

I'll update the leaderboard every now and then. Two picks per event, points earned if they finish in the top ten. 10 pts for first, 9 for second and down to 1 point for tenth.

    The first week's events:
    Sunday 13:00 AEST Men's downhill
    Monday 12:15 Ladies GS
    Tuesday 13:30, Men's Combined
    Wednesday 12:15 Ladies slalom
    Thursday 13:00 Men's Super G
    Thursday 11:00 Men's Snowboard cross
    Saturday (17th) Ladies Super G

Shiffrin is the real deal. A slalom skier who knows how to win at the toughest DH course on the women's circuit.

A mate of mine who is a betting fiend asked me for tips. I said that skiers choke at the Olympics, but Shiffrin and Hirscher won’t.

What happened to your "go American" tip?

Could it be that the best American is Bryce Bennett, who's 201cm tall, which I don't understand as I thought the ideal profile of a downhiller is short and nuggety. He's like a stick insect on skis. Will probably win now.

Yes an unheralded American will win a gold when a favourite chokes. But that favourite won’t be Hirscher or Shiffrin. They are both so on top of their game it’s ridiculous. Shiffrin will retire as GOAT. Take that to the bank.

At this rate, we'll be lucky to actually see any skiing. Both downhill and GS delayed due to weather (high winds).

Shiffrin is certainly an exceptional talent. Hard to see anyone beating her in slalom, GS and the combined. Maybe one of the specialists get up in the Super G and downhill. Not sure if Shiffrin is going to compete in all of them anyway.
I just wish they'd hurry up and get some competition run!!

My call for the men's DH was too predictable , we all know a dark horse always wins. So what the hell, I will tip Manny for the win.

Damn, another delay. The rest of the schedule is getting tight now. An event or training on every single day from here to the end.
Anyone know if the ladies downhill training doesn't go ahead, can the race still be run?

Snowboard cross tomorrow too, I'll go for Chumpy and Cam Bolton for an Aussie 1-2.
Men's downhill at 13:30 but someone at work has booked me in to take an interview right on the start time! Could be a very short one

Must have a training run before a DH can run.

What is a fairly easy course for the men will be much more demanding for the women. I'll tip Vonn, Gut, Hutter.

Well done sly_karma. Although the "Shiffrin wins everything" bet is looking good.

For the Super G the Norweigans look strong again, but I'll go for an Austrian this time. Kreichmayer and Franz.

Ladies SuperG today. Gotta think Vonn is going to win or crash, so I'll pick her.
Picked the wrong Austrian in the Men's Super G

Norway will lock up number 1. Canada will equal Germany. Americans will take over 4th because the speed skating is almost complete, but there are still more spinning around events to come.
