My wife is going to divorce me if I don't take a holiday. Full disclaimer, I don't really like holidays.

Anyway, one week, mid October with 5 yo. Not Hawaii.

    Where can I go?

Any chance you can narrow down what you and your wife are looking for?

How well does the 5 yr old do on a plane? This is your limiting factor.

5 year old is fine on the plane. I prefer if she's in a separate room which tends to add to the cost of accommodation. Was thinking of going back to HK, I don't think it's relaxing enough for Delfina.

Let's limit it to places with a beach? We all like the beach.

Doesn't have to be overseas either, I'd probably prefer it, but not fussed.

I don't really like holidays per se. I like periods of not having to work, just don't see the need to go anywhere. Over travel. Spent the last 10 years doing nothing but travel.

Does it need to be really fancy so there is plenty of jealously when you're back and dropping the 5yo at the ELC each morning?

Hamilton Island or Magnetic Island? Beaches, good for the 5yo & easy to get to.

LOL it is preferable. That kind of thing gets noticed. I have a good friend there, lent him my car as his was being repaired, people were talking about it weeks later at some kids party, commenting that we both have the same car. I was so confused I just said, yeah... and walked off.

Probably just entering low season, so cheaper. With the trade off being it's the start of the build up to the wet, so starting to get humid.

I love Australia, but it tends to lack a bit of value insofar as tourism goes, it will cost me more to get to Broome from Melbourne (on comparable dates) as it would Honolulu (as an example, Delfina doesn't want to go there for some reason I don't fully understand).

I'm also trying to limit flights to around 3k and accommodation to around 3k. I don't have any basis for that, except it "sounds fair".

Same number plate as well. The chances!

What about some fancy place on the north island of New Zealand? short flight, weather should be alright north of Auckland.

Just go to Noosa like everyone else. Beach is North facing so safer, weather will be lovely in October. Plenty of restaurants.

Go to Aitutaki in the Cook Islands. More betterer. And you can spend a day or two with Butch, chasing bones on fly.

I could do a lot worse than Noosa. Flights are reasonable too. However, run the risk of bumping into someone and having to spend time with people I don't like.

I stayed in Singapore for 18 months or so, I did think that too. Would be nice to go back not as a stop over. Plus there is the zoo, bird park, hotel pools, cheap flights, food... well behaved kids (something might rub off)...

Another vote here for the Cook Islands. Direct flights from Sydney. We did a deal with the flights to Aitutaki thrown in staying at Pacific Resort- 3 nights on each island. Did this with the 3 and 5 year old 5 years ago.

Is the Cook Islands better than Samoa?

Because Samoa is a tropical shit hole and I'd need to be convinced the Cook Islands was any different.

I did them in the same trip Western Samoa / Raratonga, not bad. Bit of a shit hole. But I have to go somewhere.

Like, I seriously have to go somewhere...

And it can't be drag the family along to something with an indirect nexus to work.

Singapore is looking promising, same price flights as Noosa. Anyone know of a good hotel where I can get a roll away into a bedroom so I don't have to go to bed at 7:30 every night?

    Try Treetops executive residences
    https://www.booking.com/hotel/sg/tr...X4;srpvid=fed61d94a7ce0134;type=total;ucfs=1&

Lots of other places in your budget as well
    https://www.booking.com/searchresul...201|38&unchecked_filter=hoteltype&update_av=1
Try seaching Booking.com for apartments for your dates. You have a generous budget so should not have any problem finding something you like.
