Any of the Royce chocolate outlets should sell these in Australia (Marion shopping center in Adelaide). Hmm might have to go for a drive.
    $25 for a pack though :(

In Japan you regularly see workers busy repairing roads late at night - not something you see much of here.

Cambridge Street not far from the hospital in Subiaco WA was having some road works done last year - replacement of pipes (maybe NBN as well, who knows) but they stuffed that Street up for more than 6 months. Some of the businesses went out of business. It's not the first time I've seen/heard of such inefficiency and devastating business outcomes but because I was going there every 2-3 weeks for treatments I saw it first hand.

At the time I said "this rubbish would never happen in Japan". Point proven.

With the triple time and a half penalty rates here it would be cheaper to lay roads of gold during the day

Ok just saw: tunnel and shaft are flooded - so lots of pumping and mud digging - hope the concrete pumping closed the hole(s) of the tunnel.

So it was an unseasonable 19 degrees in Tokyo yesterday, and yet many people were still wear the full down jackets and scarves.....
It proves once again, that many Japanese people dress by season and not temperature!!!! LOL

    http://www.straitstimes.com/asia/east-asia/45m-in-lost-cash-handed-over-in-tokyo-last-year

"In addition to keys and eyeglasses and other commonly lost objects, millions of dollars worth of cash reaches the Tokyo police's lost and found department every year."

In fact, last year people handed over a record 3.67 billion yen (S$45.2 million) in lost cash, and about three-quarters of that money ended up back with its rightful owners, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. It is a phenomenon that reflects the Japanese people's devotion both to cash and to returning lost property.
    ....
"So it's not rare to see kids bringing a 10-yen coin to a police office." "

a small one - i keep having to remind myself that the end of the isles in japanese supermarket contain items. often important ones.
back home the end of the isles are duplicate stock, whatever is being promoted for example. so ive learned to completely ignore the end and walk past it.

i dunno how this thread came to be resurrected, I imagine it had something to do with the breakdown, but it reminded me of a recent post, that has probably now been lost, along the lines of
"If I were a plastic surgeon, I would include a squeaky toy with every breast implant!"

Japan's lawmakers have passed a controversial bill allowing authorities to target terror conspiracies.

There are 277 new laws, including:
    • Copying music
    • Conducting sit-ins to protest against the construction of apartment buildings
    • Using forged stamps
    • Competing in a motor boat race without a licence
    • Mushroom picking in conservation forests
    • Avoiding paying consumption tax

Good move!!! When I used to run shopping tours, I got around that by not providing any interpreting, as the wording says "interpreter guide".
The complaints are that the quality of the guides will decline, but seriously, I looked at some of the shopping tour packages, and they were crap: Drive in a tour bus, through Ginza, Akihabara, etc.... what use is that? I reckon I know how to find stuff better than any of those tour guides. And I never, ever considered kickbacks, because that's not focused on the customer.
And those Chinese tours... every weekend, you see tour buses parked outside LAOX Akihabara. LAOX used to be good in the old days, but now caters for Chinese tourists with too much cash, on overpriced goods.

The odds are I'm far more likely to be hit by a truck, get eaten by a shark, hit a tree skiing or choke on my own vomit than be killed by a terrorist. Especially 3 and 4. So I don't let it worry me too much.

Was not so long ago that i remember that very situation occurring on the gold coast only it was JTB bring Japanese tourists into over priced shops/golf courses and hotels and yes they did receive their gratuities.
Its funny how things repeat, but differently.

Sorry to all the singles heading to Japan, BBC reports that young Japanese people are not having sex... you've been warned!!
