Kinda odd reactions given the taste of many Japanese foods. I'm thinking if the hideously salty pickles or fish or fermented bean stuff.

It does help to have Vegimite in a sandwich with cheese or on toast and not by the spoonful as tested here.

Both vegemite and natto are acquired tastes, that's all. I like both. Japan has a lot more weird foods than natto. Well, I eat almost anything, though, trying eating something unfamiliar / weird is fun:cool:

natto if it is what I think it is, is a real challenge as part of the breakfast tray.

But in Nippon, in for a penny in for a pound.:)

I take (not at the moment but have in the past) nattokinase, the good bit of natto without the nasty bit. It's a capsule. It's good stuff if you have circulation issues or tend to DVT.

Natto is very good for our beauty and health. It's a fermented food, and fermented foods are very good for bowel movements and regular bowel movements are inevitable for our health and beauty. I mean, constipation is really bad for our health and beauty. Yogurt, Kimchi, etc are also fermented foods. As you know, natto is made of soy beans, and soy beans also have many health benefits.

And I heard many Japanese men eat soy products to avoid becoming baldLOL. I mean, soy is very high in soy isoflavones. Soy isoflavones work like estrogen = a female hormone inside our body. You know, it's the hormone balance difference why a lot men become bald while women usually don't;)

I enjoy Yogurt & Kimchi (not at the same time though), but just can't do Natto. I can do Vegemite, but I'm not really a fan. It's not something I grew up with.

We offered some Vegemite to some local Japanese guests staying in our lodge last season. We told them that it was an acquired taste and we normally only spread a thin layer on toast. But before we could warn them of this, some of the party had opened the bottle stuck their finger in to take a big chuck of it and then straight into their mouth. Was an interesting reaction to witness LOL.

The vans with loud speakers and waving white gloves are on the prowl. It's erection time again.

    http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-10-14/election-campaigns-in-japan-an-old-fashioned-affair/9040624

I wrote a story up many years ago that seems to have disappeared unfortunately. However, after some searching, I found somebody posted a short outline of it.

When I was teaching English in Japan, a colleague of mine got so pissed off with the noisyass election vans in his town that he went up to one group and said “You know what you need? A catchy English slogan!” The campaigners asked what they should say and he said “’We are wankers’. It means ‘We are hard workers’”. Apparently they drove around town blaring “WE ARE WANKERS!!!” on their megaphones for the rest of the election period.

Not too sure where to put this. Did not want to be accused of thread mining and it kind of is 'Only in Japan'. A timelapse of all the earthquakes in Japan in 2011 the year of the Fukushima earthquake. Lots of activity leading up to, on, and after 11 March. Five years old and apologies if you have already seen it.

I was talking to a Japanese guy at work about overtime(non Japanese company). We have to report our hours, so HR can check that we are not working too many hours.
He's new (< 3 months), and I asked him about his reported hours... he said that it was really annoying when he get a WARNING when he's reporting his hours towards the end of the month, because it's saying he's reported too many hours!!!
So he just reports "normal" hours (9:00am - 5:30pm) after he gets the warning, so he doesn't tigger an email to our boss!!! (who will then tell him off!!!)
Now while most people at my workplace get to work between 9am-10am, he gets in a bit after 6am!! But he usually stays at work until >7pm. Then he complains about late meetings. I tell him just come in later, like 7:30am or 8am. "But I like coming in early, to beat the rush".
So on average he works 4.5 hours of (non paid) overtime a day (90 hours a month). Then he says that at least he doesn't have to work as many hours as he did at his old company!!!! He said he used to work 90-120 hours a month in overtime, BUT "at least I could get a paid taxi home if it was too late.... you don't have paid taxi here do you?" "No, because HR says we shouldn't work so many hours"
But the point is, he DOESN'T HAVE TO WORK 90 hours of unpaid overtime a month. :headbang: But he's not disappointed that he is working 90 hours/month overtime, he's disappointed that he can't get a taxi!!!! ROFL

They are crazy bastards here in Japan!!!!! LOL
