I think its quite popular for people that are deciding to stay for a season that may already have a caravan to go down that path, I met quite a few last year that were staying in caravans and they generally were over 40 as opposed to people in their 20s .Many were doing by themselves and generally had a strong desire to get in a lot of skiing.
We have a apartment in Jindabyne but the thought did cross my mind years ago to go down that path as we spent most of our childhood being dragged around the countryside in a caravan on every long weekend and school holidays.
So I was quite curious on how much the onsite fees were for the winter .
One lady that I shared a few lifts with seemed to be doing it really cheap by parking her caravan at Berridale for the winter ,although I had no idea that there was a caravan, camping ground there.

Yeah they don't move.
We don't have one original fixture in our van.. was gutted.
Yours wouldn't go for average price though would it....
I've got in my mind the old original basic and tired onsite vans. To be fair I haven't been looking closely at them - been looking at bottom end apartments/duplexes etc.

Not that many tired and old original ones there now.. there are a few .. but $$$ is forcing owners to sell.
I've heard that the waiting list is 200 people long.
However .. I think most times vans are sold to people by word of mouth.

Am I right in thinking the local council would rather protect the local players than consider rezoning more land for another caravan park if a suitable application was made?

Council was/is winding back the onsite % components of the van parks.

We have a local council just north of where we live and they wanted to build another caravan park as the towns other caravan park was frequently full and it gets a lot of passing traffic from caravans with a new road that opened a few years ago, but someone found some special weed(plant) there ,its divided the town a bit, the local shire wants to build it but many locals that have holiday homes there feel a bit threatened.

If the OP can't find a onsite van in Jindabyne , another way might be to search through the other caravan parks in the Snowy River,Cooma-Monaro and Bombala shires for one, then move it either to Jindabyne or Berridale,if it can't be taken there by being towed, put it on a truck or low-loader for transportation.
Even advertise that you are looking for one in the local area.
One might be sitting out the back of someones rural property that doesn't get used any more.
There are a few parks around the area, as well as around the Adaminaby area, and I remember also seeing one a few years ago up near the Eucumbene dam wall that seemed to have a lot of caravans that were parked there on a permanent basis.

At Berridale there is a caravan park in the back of Southern Cross Motor Inn (right at the start of Middlingbank Rd). I have had a van there for about 30 years; hardly use it now (really only for last minute dashes when I can't get into the lodge, or emergencies if I chicken-out of the drive up the hill in the middle of the night when it is dumping), but it doesn't cost much per year to leave it there.

Berridale maybe, Jindabyne highly unlikely. As I understand it, the issue in Jindabyne is the limited number of sites approved for onsite vans. Consequently the 200-long waitlist is for a site rather than a van. Happy to be corrected if I'm wrong though.

Hi Leanne,

Not sure if you are still looking but we have a van in the Jindy Caravan Park that we would like to sell. The van has been great as our kids grew up and we spent heaps of time down there but we are spending more time overseas now and are looking to get out.

We fully renovated the van 3 years ago and it's very comfortable. We have slept up to 7 people in it although it's a bit tight at that number. Close to amenities block and camp kitchen.

$30k is what we are looking for. Van across the road sold for $45k last month.

Please email me if you are keen

Regards

Hi Tim,
Wondering if your van is still for sale?
We are really keen to buy one after spending 5 seasons down in Jindy.
Cheers
