OS credit card tip

Thought I would post a money saving tip for anybody heading OS this winter.
Make sure you check how much your current credit card will charge you for transactions carried out overseas. Something like 3-5% for a lot of them.
We were put onto a mastercard account through Wizard www.wizard.com.au
We have saved hundreds over the last 6 or 7 months.

Good tip. If you can use your ATM card at your bank's favoured banks overseas (e.g. Westpac and
BNP) you can also avoid many charges.

Also i im planning to open an canadian bank account, any reconmedations?

I've had good experience with international banks, like Citibank. Commonwealth are cr^ppy and charge a lot of fees.

You'll just need your passport with valid visa inside, another form of ID such as driver's licence or something and probably your SIN also.
TB Canada Trust were a good bank, not too many fees I found.

Virtually zero fees at credit unions in BC. I pay $20 a year for unlimited debit and ATM transactions, and of course over the counter is always free.
