If you have the coin and do not mind the crowds The Manor would be the place to stay, as its between the quad and the V8 on front valley. Their budget rooms (twin or double) can be affordable but book out early.
Peer Gynt is a much more intimate lodge being smaller and away from the main accommodation area. IMO that is its main attraction as repeat guests tend to build friendships and often ski together. Last year they had two young female chefs and the food was outstanding, but I have never had a bad meal there. The week we go about 3/4 of guests are repeaters.

Will be there 13-20 July. But I have a real quandary. Always get morning lessons, but this time I'd like to try and beat @Normo to first lifts. Not sure I can do that if I've got to be back in time for lessons unless it's on front valley. Something will have to give. Where do you like to start Normo?

forget morning lessons this year - just ski in the morning when it's groomed to perfection. there are afternoon lessons and they often look the most relaxed - smaller classes - empty slopes. that week after the school holidays will be epic. at the moment you easily traverse from the V8 over to the Mt P tripple and skip the quad - just stay high and don't drop down until you are sure you have clear run to a final short skate. V8 often starts early as well - whereas the Quad never seems to start early - just daft it doesn't start at 8 for people to access mid station for a quality vista to have an over priced breakfast at. even 8.45 would help to clear people out going to other lifts.

I tend to go pretty hard in lessons in the morning, then spend the afternoon at my own easy pace practising what I've been working on in the morning. Not sure I'd have enough in the tank to go hard in afternoon lessons. Smaller classes is a bonus, but they're limiting class size to 6 in Perisher anyway. Will think about that one.

No guarantee that afternoon group lessons will be available anyway. Perisher's website states that lessons are at 9, 11, and 1.30 depending on demand. When you book a lesson add-on online, the checkout says lessons are at either 9 or 11. IIRC last year, group lessons were only at 9 and 11, with the afternoons reserved for private lessons.

Then again, if only one person turns up for a lesson (say at 1.30) they give you a one-hour private lesson in lieu of the 2-hour group lesson. The risk you take is that one other person may turn up at the last minute, you get put in a group with them, and they turn out to be at a much lower level than you. This happened to me in June 2012. I needed a bit of finessing of edged turns & got jammed with someone who couldn't traverse and was trying to master the christie.

9am lessons are the go IMHO, because so many turn up. There's a much better chance of getting a group where everyone is at the same level after some initial Q&A with the instructor and a demo run or two. And as you say, Perisher is now exclusively Max 6, so you don't get lost in the crowd.

Weather looks OK so I got clearance and will be down on 7th, 8th and 9th July with 10 year old son. Getting both excited and nervous about knee injury/recovery, just hope I can keep up with the grommet.

May be worth taking knee support(s). I took a pair last year, didn't bother with them day 1, wore them the rest of the week. They helped with confidence after my knee sprain the year before, and I was also much less tired and weak in the knees at the end of the day.

Getting excited. Off to the beach with the dog and kids then it will be time to start packing. Midnight flight to Melbourne connecting on to Canberra where my sister is picking me up for the drive to Jindy. Hopefully get a slide in tomorrow afternoon. Will be a big shock to the body after absolutely no exercise this year.

Anybody else remember the annual Wild Winter Weekend series of competitions at Perisher ?

Came to a halt a few years back.

    Sponsors pulled out ?

I always wanted to go in the dash for cash, straight lining it down Olympic always looked like fun/madness. It probably stoped partly due to "Saftey/insurance" and partly because channel 9 pulled the plug on Wide World of Sports in 97 (I think).

Edit: Found this from the first one

Ahh ok, I remember watching as a kid in the early\mid 90's. But moved away after I left school and did next to no skiing during the 2000's so hadn't seen it since.

Depending on how well the queue mates up and fills the chairs. More like 16.667 chairs.

7.35 chairs of which contain snow boarders means if you ski straight off you could get first tracks .... slowly obeying all speed signs of course

Yep. Avatar except with black pants.

I'm really disappointed MissH can't make it. We have lots of fun on the slopes as per this clip on The Sticks at SunPeaks where it starts off flat, my favourite, then there is a slight rise which if one doesn't judge it right means a bit of poleing. I thought I could squeeze in between Miss and Mrs

Adi's for sure. Might even do your bikini line if you ask nicely!:)
Walk from the carpark across the footbridge and he's right there at the entry to the main building.
He opens early enough for you to get a quick tune and still be lining up for the V8 before most punters turn up.......... (But there will be at least one guy in the queue ahead of you, for sure. :D)
