Exactly! I regard any snow on opening weekend as a bonus, and my son and I had a blast (literally speaking) on FV yesterday. I also noticed the emergence of the yellow brick road ....

Maybe if he pulled his skis and walked up the moving carpet he could smash out a few more! :D

I did not bother to ski....my mates did a most day and they said the scales were tipped to spending most of that time in lift queues......for the few runs, so I took a few pics and enjoyed the place.

Up at Spencer's Creek there was some flakes mostly preserved. The camera pic did not good enough to show the crystals properly, but they amazingly preserved. Some tilt shift images of a boarder crash at Smiggins and FV, and a shot taken at Spencer's. Never seen opening weekend so crowded. The music fest was very good in places but seemed to lack the feeling it had last year - except Sunday night at the Smiggs Hotel. Laura and the Blackjacks were a cool band - she has real talent...and then others among a plethora of beers and shots.

V8!started turning, very slowly, at 10:30am. Up until then it was Mitchell and Sturt T-Bars.

I've been enjoying the "looks flat" line since I first got here some years ago. Not going to stop now. Doesn't take much to amuse me.

Yes and no. It flattens out between the base of the mountain and the village. However, I recently had an interesting discussion with a mate who's girlfriend is born and bred in Bonneval. He told me that he'd been looking at a website that mapped the avalanche history of Bonneval and surrounding area. After what he saw, he was amazed how anyone would even contemplate building where the village of Bonneval now exists. I suggested the land must have been very cheap.

Don't need to jump on a plane, I'm already there. It's just as appealing in summer as it is in winter, and after a winter in the Alps, sliding on snow is the furthest thing from my mind right now.

The are many places in the world, especially in the Alps where the mountains are big, steep and the valleys tight. There have been significant avalanches in the Haute Maurienne that have buried houses and hotels, resulting in multiple fatalities, and right now as we speak, there are people building new houses in the exact path one of the biggest avalanches took. I guess it's a just a reality of life in those particular regions, like droughts and bushfires are for us.

Not me. I spent 3 days in Jindy enjoying friends, grabbing bargains and organising life for when the snow comes. Was most excellent. I hope to have a beer with Norman at some stage but bugger if I am going to count how many hours I spend on a ski lift ....:p

Noble objective there Mr Duck, but just how is that going to keep us non snow dwelling plebs entertained? More time on the carpet would at least appease the masses :p
