I know this is probably a dumb question, but.....
Why on earth did you park in the dead centre of that enormously empty carp-park????

Have you seen the size of the Perisher carpark potholes ?

They are so large and steep, Tele was worried he couldn't get line of sight with a satellite for his PLB if he went in any further and got stuck.

With no-one around, it may be winter before anyone found him and could get him out.

Na - they just resurface right over the top. 10 years from now when starting on the PV Car Park Village Development they'd find a bunch of cars entombed.

I was feeling energetic today, and went for a bit of a hike around the resort.

In my travels I came across this. It is a measuring stick in the ground, marked in cm increments

I don't recall seeing this before, and it is in a place I have often been. However, walking around you do notice lots of stuff that has always been there but you just haven't noticed when you are flying past at speed on skis. Anyone else noticed one of these before?

I'll keep an eye on it next year, useful for checking accumulations and losses

If that's where I think it is (near Leichhardt T)... Could be to do with the survey work for the new chair/half pipe works. I haven't seen such a marker anywhere when there's snow around. Confirm location?

If there aren't any crowds Leichardt's good for a quick bit of vertical. Not as good as Eyre, but not far off it and better off than many other places.

Nice sunrise this morning in the valley. Don't recall seeing FV so green and "groomed"
Referring back to an earlier discussion, in the "olympic" photo you can see Goats Gully and how much rock removal and ground grooming has been done over the years. It was originally similar or worse to the rocky craigs on the left towards Lawson

Will be very disappointed if the half pipe takes over Liechardt. Its a much needed area when things go on wind hold as many of us saw happen this season.

Yep - very noticable now how much the grass/vegetation has changed on the groomed slopes over the last 3 years with the mowing/ slashing.

Those summer groomed slopes are radically altered from the rest of the mountain. Different flora, changes soil physical properties, changed hydrology, different fauna and less snow needed to ski on them.

Unless you're a goose like me.

It was on Mt P. Skiers left of towers, low side of burnum burnum. Come over the crest onto the main slope of towers, then take a hard left under the triple chair, and it would be on your right.

If it is a surveyors tool, maybe they are thinking of smoothing out burnum burnum, and making a groomed exit down to happy valley? That would make some sense, there is more reliable snow there than the exit lower down. They had trouble getting that lower exit open this year. Also low intermediates could avoid the main pitch of towers.

A bit further over than I was speculating so probably not much to do with the Leichhardt development. The notion of a higher smooth exit from Towers to Happy Valley (and on to Leichhardt) would make sense. That could have saved a few bus trip returns to FV last season.
There were a couple of days in early August where I would have been happy to avoid the main pitch of Towers! :)

Not just low intermediates. Tiny little snowploughers racing down the steep pitch of Towers, legs shaking, is probably character building but looks terrifying from the chair. An easier way out would be a gift.

Strange spot to put what looks more like a piezometer than a depth measurement device. Perhaps after their DA for the Half Pipe was thrown away for doing such a bad job of assesing the hydrological impacts they're putting more effort into whatever they have planned for that part of Burnum Burnum.

Nah, its a serious bit of rock outcrop. I am thinking of pitching a tent out there this winter and dinking about the tree country because I am not convinced that the best snow is way way up on the featureless exposed range and .... I am too lazy to climb out of the crags.

I am here to finally sign the contract on our little bit of paradise and some other tentative exciting evolving possible developments.

Being the hardcore adventurers we are I am sure that a tent camp in the Betts Creek area would open up some lovely ski line options. Combine with a full moon and some night skiing and a few drinks at the Man and a ski "home".

Un-hurried lift assisted side country for amateur snow campers.

Ha - was only there today myself. "Sadly" all this rain has washed away the remaining drifts. All very green with even Jindy looking more like April than January with green paddocks in every direction.

A work colleague up here has a mate that apparently just bought some land at Guthega. Didn't know you could buy land that's within the confines of a national park.
