I'd be pretty stoked if it was the 22c it currently is at Perisher.
37.6c in Canberra at the moment :(

When's the latest I can buy my epic pass, as also heading to park city and Tahoe in Jan 18?

@Dace or anyone else. What was the Guthega village and area like, does anyone stay there over the summer or is it a bit of a ghost town. Just curious, cheers.

I think it's something like 31st of May. The Perisher website should say. Best to check it out & be safe rather than sorry.

Quite a few people staying in lodges on Australia day weekend, also a lot of people camping at Island bend. The pub is closed however.

We are booked for 5 days Perisher, 10 days park city and 5 days Tahoe. I am thinking that +1 and a m15 boy are fully grown enough that they should pick up their own skis when we visit in August.

We spend a day in Canberra before heading to Perisher. Where should we try in Canberra, or should we shop in Cooma or Perisher?

I've never bothered with Canberra and have no idea where the ski shops are, but Rhythm in Cooma is huge , I have always bought in Jindabyne and just do the rounds at all the ski shops to see who has the best deals(specials and last years graphics, skis) , I generally dont go chasing a particular ski or brand and just see whats out there then go home and do the homework on the best ski and what I want to do with it, and in the next few days make a decision . Its normally a replacement for my current ski, so there is no hurry to grab the first one that comes along.
I have usually ended up at Jindabyne Sports (Now called Gravity ) at the old shoping centre and they give a very good service.
We had a pretty good look in Rhythm towards the end of last season when i was chasing a replacement for my very old pair of Reusch gloves and was blown away by the large number of skis available.

In Canberra there is Straightline Ski and Scuba in Fyshwick, Adrenalin Boardstore in a different part of Fyshwick, and Belconnen Ski and Board in Belconnen (surprise)

I'd just shop in Jindy, or Rhythm. So much choice in Jindy.

The general theory is the closer you get to the resorts the more you will pay for gear. Straightline is good and as with most ski stores the staff are experienced and really helpful. As previously mentioned, Rhythm in Cooma is huge and again good staff. There is a separate floor each for skiing and snowboarding and so the choice is amazing. It looks kind of innocuous from the street as it is attached to a service station. Jindy has multiple choices and if you are rich go straight to Larry Adler. ;) Goes without saying that, being mid-season, you will find it hard to strike a bargain. Pretty envious of your trip plans.

Boots buy local - ski and board buy online.

Though there have been some very good prices at ESS the last couple of years.

And Jindy Sports has had some beautiful Nordica all mountain skis that come in under 1K including top quality bindings.

Level Nine has had these on special the past year

Looks like Perisher min temp for Feb got smacked out of the ballpark in the 24hrs to 9am today.

18C was the previous record on Feb 8 2010 -

New record is now 19.7C Feb 11, 2017 - ironically set between 9am and 9:30 at the start of the 24 hour period through to 9am today. Most of last night was well above 20C .

Been in Canada the last 2 weeks. While everyone back home has been complaining about record high temperatures there have record setting cold temperatures and record snowfalls for many regions in BC the last week.

I had a pair of Reusch gloves that I wore until they literally disintegrated. The best gloves I ever had by far. Did you buy a new pair or go to another brand?. Where did you get them

at least in strict terms of bang for buck it was a winner

I spent weeks looking around the ski shops in Jindy for a replacement pair and was getting a little frustrated by what was on offer,no one does lambswool inside anymore. ended up checking out Rythym in Cooma and it came down to a nice pair of Japanese gloves(oyuki ?) or another pair of Reusch gloves , both were reasonably priced and definitely not the most expensive.
Talk about being indestructible,The original pair were bought in France(1990) , pretty cheaply right at the end of the season, and would do about 100 days each year up to 1996 ,then another 250 days from 2009 .
The new pair(Reusch) are pretty good ,still goretex with leather palms , but struggled to stay dry when skiing in wet snow mixed with rain and dont seem to be as warm as the old ones.
    Probably should waterproof them.

Drainage works completed at base of Eyre.

Made it easier to enjoy an Alpine burger and beer. Balmy 12 degrees. And quite a few folks up there today!!
