I have been snowed on 2 or 3 times in Perisher between Xmas and New Year.
Clear skies and hard frosts freeze the ground, not precipitation.
Cheers Telemark - fair point and I don't necessarily disagree with you. Hey, can you come around to the farm and help me with some digging before the below zero nights are a regular occurrence? There is a heap of agricultural pipe I need to install before the cold weather sets in. I'll shout the beers. I've found that its generally the freezing of moisture content in the soil / ground that gives us the worst trouble once we get consistent cold nights (and days). The moisture seems to come from frosts and rain. All the best.
Once I get the fencing I have to do before winter done. Just hire a trench digger for your tractor. Job done.
Or an ice-breaker........if you leave it too late!
Not a bad effort so far. Already on page three and the season is still two months away. SDS in action.
Imagine if Perisher had an AFL team.
They'd be a bunch of pansies compared to the Thredbo team.
well obviously, its AFL, they'll all be pansies
What an early start to the fun - only April and snow already covering the cable on the Mt P double
EDIT... If you haven't noticed the cable is on the ground for maintenance
First car park shot of 2017
Snowing heavily. Slippery on the road above Sponars.
-3 and feeling it!
Be still, my beating heart
One more, just for the fun of it!
Even posted it before 8am. Love your work
anyone still at Perisher now? BOM Obs are showing temp drop and radar showing moisture still moving up from he south. Any chance of more snow today?
Beautiful day in the mountains yesterday
That rock almost looks like a big grizzly snuffling through the brush for every little extra bit of food it can find before hibernating.
Nice sunrise in the valley this morning
But damn if I could find where @Normo hides that white stuff
If the weather is good next weekend, I might go for a stroll up that path
Good excuse to get out the winter camping gear
Pop over the hill and a dip in the lake??
Isn't the lake full of jet skiers ? @Astro666
Snow from a couple weeks ago up at Perisher that I thought I would post. Not long now, get keeen!
Smells like snow is coming!
Still a ways off, Thredbo Top Station @ 5C & 40mm of precipitation since 9am.
started snowing about 10am.
a few cms by 11
then melt / new snow thru the day
A couple of photos from yesterday when after a couple of days of gales and heavy rain, peace and white descended on the valley
After a brief skirmish, the new transport is keen for a full on encounter
It went from -6 at 7.30am to -2.6 at 8am. Not sure how long that snow is going to hang around....
giving the snow guns a run
What's happened to the Mountainwatch live cam on Front Valley? Did they get turfed out or something?
They'd be very keen jetskiers.
Guns-a-blazin in perisher again tonight.
Fair bit of build up down there to.
Seems an awful long time to ge the cable back up on the Perisher double - hope it's not been converted to a rope tow
If it has, we're using your new wheels to get to the top.
Wot - and get the tyres dirty!
You've just "Mr Sheened" the hubcaps!
But don't waste your time polishing the dipstick. The bloody thing keeps getting oil on it.
I know there's a lot of complaints about the cost of snowsports in Australia, still cheaper than NZ!
@Normo, the magic carpet is starting to look pretty sweet !!!
Dust off the phat pow skis
Na - need need those "free the heel" skis to get up there!
Not if they open Mitchell t-bar
Nah. Just drive around the back of the hill up to the top, don the skis and ski down. Too easy. Just need an offsider to bring the car back to base. No point waiting for the "official opening" if there is enough cover
Any good pics of how big those front valley whales are getting?
Just need an automonous Yarris
You can see them breeching on the Snow Cams.
I know, although I wouldn't mind seeing a zoomed out pic of that big one in the main snow cam.
Looks like they are just loading up the magic carpet area.
Yeah that's all they worried about , any above and beyond is a bonus.
They got a more than reasonable idea these days of what they gotta do by what date.
Masters of the snow making & farming them Perisher crew.
