Have they got the gates up now?
Yes for Calf today, no for Cow T bar. And the chair is still frozen in immobility.
An awesome day on the Mount to round out Schoolies Season 2017 ...
Central must be frothing for their first Friday on the hill ... Freshies and more.
I'm in town next Sat - Sun. Hopefully should be some good snow.
Same here, got a few days this week, then all of next week we've got a house in Jindy, should be a sensational week of boarding!
Hi all, just had an awesome time riding this weekend, great weather apart form the Friday! However my trip was totally ruined as my boots were stolen from the hotel drying room on my last night
We stayed at the Perisher Manor Hotel (right next to the v8). They have a drying and locker room with security code access, but someone managed to get in and steal my new boots, and another guests' snowboard and his boots too. I had to hire boots, and they refused compensation stating that we leave items in their room at our own risk. If you have to stay here, make sure you keep everything you can in your room, and bring a padlock for the locker.
No security cameras so pretty much no way to catch the disgusting theif.
Saw your wife's post on FB. I can't believe how much stuff is being stolen this year! I rarely take breaks but I locked my skis up at breakfast yesterday and have hammered it again and again with my offspring. I even heard of toboggans being stolen!
Scum. Let's just hope now the school holidays are done they bugger off.
Have you checked with your home insurance to see if they're covered under portable contents?
Cow T definitely had a scanner yesterday.
Your home contents insurance usually covers portable items up to $1000 - anything more than that needs to be listed individually. If you have your receipt still it might be worth the $200ish excess.
It sounds like there is a lot of stuff being pinched this season - I have even heard of locks being cut off. Maybe the resorts and accommodation need to step up and put in security cameras around storage areas or at least have a checking area - secure area to store your gear - I would be willing to hand over a dollar or two for the convenience and security. I have done this overseas, maybe a business opportunity?
Someone posted a video (on PSR) of the freedom quad turning briefly yesterday - also backed by the Guthega cam. To anyone actually there, I assume there currently isn't enough snow at the bottom for it to open?
Let's see how busy it gets, post school hols.
No one mentioned but looks like 3.0mm of rain yesterday around midday.
There is enough snow
There is Legislation in place that makes the Hotel/Motel responsible for any theft from any room or facility provided by them. There is a maximum that can be claimed. I recently stayed at the Ibis Styles Canberra and they had a sign on the back of the door stating this legislation.
Most hotel/motels will claim they don't have any responsibility as most people don't know about this legislation, so they get away with it. With a bit of google searching you should be able to find the legislation.
Edit: Found the Legislation. Looks like the hotel is liable to a max. of $100 but it's hard top makes sense of all the clauses and subclauses etc.
The bottom traverse isn't built yet, they may not want 1000's of people struggling along the middle traverse. Once Freedom opens, they will swarm.
I'm having trouble with this terminology
isn't middle traverse the one that most people use when travelling from Blue Cow to Guthega?
No, it's in-between the track over and the track back. There's uphill bits. Comes out just below the Freedom chair unload. If you look on the trail map you can see a contour which kind of equates to where it is.
No the middle traverse was done away with when the freedom chair opened.
The bottom traverse is the main one now (need for other trails from Blue cow not just the one every one thinks of).
The middle traverse is used for oversnow vehicles. (or is open when there is limited snow as has been the last few weeks.)
It's was blue sunny skies yesterday.
not what I'm seeing on this map - admittedly old, but I reckon the names haven't changed
Trust me it's different to the normal traverse which heads down towards the creek and comes out just above the Freedom load. It's not marked on the map.
Have a look here - it kind of cuts through about where the double blue squares are on MIL and Schnaxl
https://www.perisher.com.au/plan-your-trip/new-to-perisher/trail-maps (guthega map)
That's a 2011 trail map showing the middle traverse. But it's not what @chicski is saying.
The Freedom chair unload is near the Blue Cow T-bar unload IIRC?
Edit: Sorry, busy digging out and scanning old trail map while chicski was replying. So on this map also, cross MIL and Schnaxl at the double blue dots, following the contour to the base of the Blue Cow T?
The current traverse is higher up, you come out just above the Cow load. You can see a contour line through the blue squares on Schnaxl, I reckon that's it.
those maps don't show a named trail at all
I think I'll stick with the other one
That's correct Chicski. The middle traverse is an access road that cuts through the middle of MIL run In high season the lower traverse is used. And yes the middle traverse involves little up hill skating, and a final up hill walk to reach Guthega.
That's the point, it's not a named trail.
What you are all calling the middle traverse isn't the middle traverse at all. The middle traverse is clearly marked on the 2011 map, above.
I'm fairly sure I've seen an even earlier map that refers to the currently open traverse as the Upper Traverse. That would be a more logical name for it anyway, as it's above the Middle Traverse.
It's not a named trail, how about we call it the Temporary Upper Middle Traverse, TUMT for short? Whatever you want to call it, it's a slog to get there.
Upper Middle Bogan Traverse FTW!
It's a cat track for the snow mobiles to go between the parts of the resort.
Jeez I'm glad we got that straightened out...
Wont matter for much longer hopefully
You all have no idea.
Its part of the Monaro. It's the L-Plater, Roo-infested, autonomous vehicle traverse..
This is what i tried to say!
TUMT rolls off the tongue better than UMBT.
I think we need snow...
Its not a slog if you piss ball it down early starter.
Have you been on it this year? There is an early slightly uphill section that I skated, though many were walking, but then there is a bloody steep hill that most were walking or side stepping. I duck walked up it but was puffing at the top.
Thread is seriously off rails. Can it come back?
Thanks guys, probably not worth me going through insurance, think I'm out of luck here, just going to file a police report and forget it. On the bright side, I get to go boot shopping again! And at least I got a couple of days out of them, the poor guy who had his boots and board stolen didn't get any.
Anyway, still had a great weekend, Sunday was beautiful. Found this great spot next to some very questionable yellow ice:
could not help..
using rudimentary tools in remote location.. I came up with this..
Purple run is danger... punters like me crossingso many black and hard-ish blue runs... recipe for ... crash.
I have traversed higher...
I swear this 2011 trail map image was fuzzy and illegible on that stoopid Windoze machine I was on earlier.... now, back in Mac land... I can see the issues. makes no diff, however.
even though it's named on that map, other people see it otherwise - no one dies in a ditch so I won't pursue it
we could call it the Voldemort traverse
Middle traverse is not the same path, it's lower down the hill and used to come out part way up the j-bar. The cat track passes the top of where the j-bar was.
That be me purple path. above. ?
I like. "the traverse that cannot be named"
I am not even going to look.... there was a run called Mother in Law... as in, as mean and undesirable as one...
And, I think, even stranger.. there is one right next door called the Screw.... MILs and Screwing?? eeeeewwww.. who were the marketing dept at Guthega?
Wind hold? or lack of punters now school is back? or both?
