I'll be down Perisher for about a week from the 17th Nov. If anyone's about, be happy to catch up for a coffee, bite to eat or even some of that alcohol stuff.

A bit of a late reply but if you want the details regarding the 2018 Skitube costs they are below. The discounted price is when booked a week or more in advance.

The cost to add to Epic Pass was $99 for adult and $48 for 5-12 year old.

Early Friday morning was thinking a few out of season turns and burn were possible on some crisp and dry freshies but a phone call later, had to dig the car out to head back to Sydney for a NBN install. But true to form the unprofessional $^&* didn't turn up and only called late evening complaining the premises were closed up....3 month RANT continues

Found the old Leichhardt T-bar pretty much intact. wonder where it's going to go - hope where it's stored is no indication but then again paying toboggans sound good!

When the will is willing and the snow arrives a week from summer when nothing is stopping you from going, not even a late season influenza, one takes the familiar road south for snowy days number not enough in each year, so they must be seized.

Enthusiastic nevertheless (of weather or age), speculation began to mount as to where the first flakes would be seen. It was Thursday, November 22nd 2018 around 5pm. "There will be a sudden cold burst with flakes at Lake George." The dreamer always is optimistic and realistic, yet it had happened before, but...not today. The lake was dry again but about 12° Celcius.

Reality took sway so attention switched to the cusp of rain and snow - normally somewhere between Wilsons Valley and Rennix Gap. Sure enough, flakes eventuated right on cue with snow gathered at the gap - "more than winter sometimes." The second wind after all those hours of driving sure kicks in when this happens and soon it was flake spotting in the headlights not satisfied with just flakes - we wanted heavier. Sure enough by the time of arrival around 10pm it was blowing and snowing, much to our content. After settling in and a beer, retirement for the night was to the sound of snow blowing against the windows.

Friday morning dawned with a few centimeters in the car park at Smiggins, some sun with snow flakes dancing in the light, fire starting and a cooked breakfast. A trip soon after hoping to get to Charlottes was stopped short with the gates closed at Perisher. So, it was off elsewhere - to Island Bend to check some scenery, wildlife, dams, and dramatic river bed...due to sudden flooding by the Scheme.

Afterwards it was do what you do on a snowy day with a bit too much wind, limited visibility, the fire going, a few beers, some more cooking, and some walking about locally to experience the weather...you know, deliberately going out in the conditions to get the 'alive' feeling. regardless of weather, season, snow, sun, or rain, the spirit of the mountains is in each place...waiting to be had. It snowed most of the day with some sleetish stuff and some drops, but there were still flakes about into the night.

Saturday was about walking and trying to get new angles on very familiar territory, when lo and behold, a mate showed us a track and a hut we had not been to before - a new experience. Along the way we startled a deer, I had seen their tracks earlier and on the way in on Thursday night, we saw the stag the locals know of. He is a dark colour with antlers. In fact, up until our departure on Sunday morning (25.11.2018), deer were the most sighted until those wallabies along the way to the park gates.

Within the photos are familiar places perhaps with a slight edge to invite some intrigue...though, one never loses the fascination with these places and so at moon set this morning combined with a bit of colour on snow, one resides comfortably with the attachment, knowing with this one can combine the essence of winter, sliding, and apres activities. Hoo-bloody-ray for such an awesome place we all love, lighting a fire as the snow falls, cooking breakfast as the snow falls, having great conversations and feeling the essence of the environment...I could never tire of the mountains and as I rode through Jindabyne departing back home today, I looked again as long as I could to see those last patches of snow at every opportunity, until we topped the hill outside Cooma and finally one last look (sure there would be snow in the shade) at the Brindabellas before committing to the long descent towards warmer places.

I am putting in a fair few pics - they are screen caps of images or part thereof. Can we ever get enough? I like geography, flora and fauna, weather..and its moods, so perhaps things like the bendy river may not entirely fascinate, but a snowy scene anyway. Check the spring weather banter thread for the video of snow flakes dancing in the sun on Friday morning.

When is Steve re-opening after his spring hiatus? I don't have FaceBook to message or check on there, so need to rely on crowd wisdom for this important information.

I'm thinking about a possible day (or maybe overnight) trip down to check the caravan and lodge over the next couple of weeks, and obviously an Eyre Burger is a vital part of a 1000km drive. My usual timing is to avoid Wednesdays (Steve's golf day) and Thursdays (Jindy kebab shop closed), but outside of that I know Steve is usually closed from the end of the season until Christmas-ish, so not sure when he is starting up again for the summer holidays.Thanks...

In the off season occassionally you can get someting in the tube station complex - seems to depend on the number of workers on the hill.
But until National Parks and Vail can come to some agreement with the support of the lodges, Perisher will live upto its name and perish during summer, :(

The MTB biz is the obvious answer /option. IMO
The " build it and they will come " theory applies.
I'm not involved in the sport , read as punter obs only.
Blue Cow to me seems to have the pitch / terrain to work with ?
Excellerator , Roller Coaster , Side Saddle.
    Ridge Chair would do it.
All but level ride across from Perisher .
Things progress then fire up BC terminal , step further the tube.
    Just thoughts

I find it odd that NPWS seem quite happy to let Thredbo open MB tracks, but are resistant to Perisher doing the same. At least that's the popular myth. Perhaps, in reality, it is Perisher who don't want to open tracks.

Gotta think Vail didn't buy into the joint to sit on their hands and be happy with status quo.
There's approved development, plenty of potential to lift the game.
They know what they are doing so ... over to Vail to press the button.

Perisher have no current DA's to open lifted bike tracks.
There was some mutterings a while back with a year round restraunt and new lift on Mt P but was replaced with just new lift when the village plan went off the boil.
Not much point in having half arsed activities when theres not even half arsed services.
