    Leichhardt progress,
Every year I can’t quite wrap my head around it, but it always looks steeper in summer than winter
Well not quite as good as @SMSkier but here are more photos from around the resort

Perisher cracked the big 3-0 yesterday for the first time ever (well since weather observations kicked off in 1976)...

Thats a little weird, as the BOM hour by hour measurements only show a max of 29.6C for perisher.

Still hot for the snowies

Yep - the 30.1 was hit at 1:21pm. The hourly data is a record of the actual temperature on the hour so may not capture max or mins.

Hit up Mt P to catch the sunset and full moon with wifey and a few friends. Perfect temps and some pretty cool cloud formations. Something a bit different for the evening plus the bonus of a little exercise.

    1. Walk up.

    2. At the top.

    3. Sunset.

    4. Moonrise.

Looking at that photo of Towers from the road, I was wondering what the hell is all that crap on the ground below the bottom of the Triple.
The I realised it's the hardware from the terrain park.
So strange to see it "just lying around" like that.

Did some hiking up to Stilwell and beyond this morning. Stopped in at you know where for a bite to eat. 7 folks there and more heading in as we were leaving.

Remains one of my favourite drop in spots. Weather was ideal!

I still think the walk up Mt P is one of the best there.

Next year if we find some time we will walk over Mt P. , Back Perisher, Blue Cow and around to home at Smiggs

Really enjoyed the photos here. Leichhardt will be up in no time.

Enjoying looking at the weather forcasts for Perisher of late. Gradual lowering of temps. Crazy but am already getting excited in mid feb. In Sydney last night, first time since Oct last year, there was a touch of a chill just in the wind. Was still 25 but every now and then a breeze would come through carrying a chill. Are we there yet?

    Not sure @Kappy ^....(re above).

But we were up there today ;)......

    1. Walk up to top of Quad.

    2. View from the top

    3. Redundant Leichhardt infrastructure has gone from storage in the car park. In with the new......

    4. Hearing that Leichhardt towers are about a month off. Should be some heli action during the install.

    5. And of course a pit stop at you know where! Quite a few folks about once again!

Reason is so that they fit in a shipping container a bloke at work (ex-doppelmayr) tells me. Makes sense. Then they just bolt them together apparantly.

Was gifted this Perisher Ski Touring map yesterday. Plan to frame it and hang in the ski hut here at home. I don’t know the age but some interesting features still shown. It’s in feet. Blue Cow not there as a resort. Some lift differences...very happy to have a little piece of older PV history on display, abeit there would no doubt be stuff about that is much older....

I'd never really noticed how water from east of Charlottes Pass (Upper Spencers Creek) flowed over to Guthega. Anyone know if they have walking trails that follow the water that way?

Spencers Creek is a tributary of the Snowy, which is the river dammed at Guthega. Fisherfolk may have created footpads along Spencers Creek from the bridge over the river downstream, but IIRC there is a lot of shrubbery down there. Trapyard Creek and Wrights Creek are tributaries of Spencers Creek. The old pole line from Perisher to Charlottes crosses Johnnies Plain and there is probably a footpad there, at least.

Below Rawsons Pass and Kunama Basin are 2 branches of the Snowy. AFAIK, both branches are called the Snowy

I first saw the old pole line in 1978.
For a LONG time I thought it was the snowcourse used by SMHA for the Spencer Creek depth readings.
Of course now I know better.

Hey SMSskier, can you do another pic of that map, but include charlottes as well?
I know current naming conventions suggest the proper name is Charlotte Pass, but I've always had a suspicion the original name was Charlotte's Pass....

    Charlotte(s) Pass
Philip Francis Adams, the District Surveyor at Cooma, brought a group to the area in 1881. He named the area after his daughter Charlotte who accompanied the group. Is it Charlotte Pass, or is it Charlotte's Pass? A search on old newspapers digitised by the National Library of Australia for Charlotte Pass gives you this. And if you do Charlotte’s Pass you get this. Even back in 1906 there seems to be a degree of interchangeability.
On the old 1:100,000 Kosciusko sheet, and the 1:50,000 Mount Kosciusko sheet, it is Charlottes Pass, but on the more recent 1:25,000 Perisher Valley sheet it is Charlotte Pass.

    http://www.wikiski.com/wiki/index.php/Australian_Geographical_Name_Derivations

When I wrote that item the Trove links went to different sources. Sadly, they seem to have changed their search protocols. What the searches revealed was that the names were interchangeable way back in the very early 20th century very soon after the pass was named. The Geographical Names Board has made an apparently arbitrary choice for Charlotte Pass. I know that the GNB dislikes apostrophes (one day I will relate the saga of Run o' Waters Creek near Goulburn) and that policy may have influenced their decision.

Ah, very interesting, many thanks for the detail. No wonder the confusion! Have called it charlottes pass for years and always wondered why people were so pedantic in correcting me. Turns out we're all right.

It’s a little bit like Smiggins and Smiggin! Both get used but one is correct. Interesting that even signage for the resort on the way over from Perisher differs from the signage on the Kosi road!!
