Arrived Thursday night. Quiet, nice, cool, cold, warm, stars, moon, sun, sky, blue, gold, brown, green, grey, red. Colours of Easter, particularly with the trees in colour along the way and most leaves yet to drop. Plenty of people about town and the mountain, work at the lodge to prepare for the season coming before tools down commences, coffee at Eyre and a brekky roll. A peppering of colour looking back at Jindabyne as we left today after checking the sculptures at the lake, and then gold vineyards at Lake George with red oaks.

Patiently awaiting snow on Good Friday

    Lake Jindabyne Easter Sunday

    Some of the sculptures

Entry to lower Perisher Centre. Was a set of metal stairs with a concrete slope down the side.

The steel was slippery and the gaps were just wide enough to catch the toe of your boot if you weren’t careful.

I can see some conduit. Hopefully the concrete steps are heated to melt the snow and ice.

from my perspective as a Builder.
thermal mass. so it wont get so cold so quick.
won't freeze up and hold the ice as readily.
edit : in slab heating for the win. I do it in bathrooms etc

Those old steps were diabolical. Always approached them with a healthy dose of caution, especially when tired.

Currently looking to build soon in East Jindabyne and working Berridale/Cooma but photos like this have me plotting to find work closer to Jindabyne and finding ways to rustle up the extra $$ to find a home as close to the NP boundaries as possible!

Way too crowded. At least there's progress at Perisher Valley in the three decades I've been sliding there. Actually, nearly 4. Fark. The car park is sealed. That is good. And new steps out to the left of the Centre.

They won't need them as the car park will be covered in snow from the long weekend in June until September. One can but dream. Ski tube for me this year. First Perisher season pass in more than a decade. Sorry Thedbo but I have turned to the whiter side.

Actually they have painted 90% of the carpark, about the only bit not painted is the front couple or rows ;) I guess they figure the people who park in the front row probably know where to go :)

Thats part of Vail's "Epic Promise" zero waste to landfill from Vail operations by 2030. You'll notice the recycling bins are what you see first.

Its a pretty bold goal with a very wanky name.

Something rather large on the way up the hill. Is it a snow factory?
Then again, might be something really boring like a new sewerage treatment module?

@Astro66 and I were stuck behind that for a while - very slow moving!

We had a nice wander around Perisher today with @hipo

Up at Blue Cow ... missing a little snow ;) @hipo may have a while to wait ....

And these likely lads were scoping out Zalis in the background:

And possibly a few new snow guns on Front Valley. Pics of Leichhardt chair (with cable being loaded) over on the Leichhardt thread ...

Now let’s get the season started!

The shot with Hipo and Astro gives a decent impression on the slope of Zali's and Kamikaze (?) at rear. The cams make it look flat, so good to get a reminder before it goes white. Envy your sojourn; would love to spend time pre-snow in the resport area?

Oh look.... arms and retractable cables for the T’s on International were being installed today. The “T”s wont be attached till a few days before the lift opens. At least that’s been my observation in past seasons.

Just one of the many tasks being undertaken as the resort continues preparing for Winter 2019.

I remember talking to a fitter about this. All of the retractable cables get taken down and rebuilt in summer, which apparently is a very tedious job nobody looks forward to:rolleyes: The vast majority of the cables in the resort are hydraulic, and all the fluid has to be replaced and bled. The international t's however have old spring loaded ones, which is why they fail to retract more often and cause flyovers.

    T-bar trivia:)
