It's interesting the whole network is being tested ahead of a series of winter systems, 4 weeks from opening.
Snowmaking for kicks, this week perhaps?

They have installed new capacity over summer, and some of the piping has also been redone. So understandable they are doing a bit of thorough testing.

Wouldn’t surprise me if they fired it up in anger soon, but it will be front valley.

On the basis of past seasons, it will be when Peter B calls @Normo and checks that he is ready for the resort to open, right ;)

They test the systems early every year.
that way they have a few weeks up their sleeve before snowmaking starts in earnest to repair any problems that show up

Yep, fully aware of the resort's seasonal coming/goings. We go through this every year, but stirring the pot so to speak.

That has never been an issue. They have enough year round staff to run a lift a day 'early'

yes I know. hence the carpet comment.
as they do every year tho they seem to manage to get the v8 turning .
we all know it's pure marketing and bragging rights stuff.
otherwise I was thinking on a slightly larger scale.
edit and the guns are still blazing (on fv cam for us insomniacs )

It’s not insomnia.... just resuming normal operations as the Winter stoke starts to build..:skier::emoji_cloud_snow::emoji_cloud_snow:....LOL.

It does seem out of the ordinary to run those guns overnight (still running as I write) without having a planned intent.

Guns running, snow on the way.....oh, Winter and the speculation!

    Let the games begin!!

Edit: On their Instagram post Perisher says that snow making is under way.... not sure what that means....but can’t be a bad thing!!

Official inspection conducted before coffee and eats at JJ’s.....

Inspector (granddaughter) in pink beanie declared it to be wet snow that’s melting quick.

Work/ adjustments being made to V8 RFID and some snow guns....

Bumped into a friend who works for the resort year round..... tells me that snow making has commenced so it’s a bit more than just testing...

Buller, Baw Baw and Lake Mountain are currently beating Perisher in the snow making race. They all have pretty decent piles of snow. Buller has two huge stock piles (check snow cams)

The Perisher snowmaking budget for from May to late August. If they can make snow during that period they will.

Anyone know why Perisher FV cam locked off at 17:56pm today, when they were live last night at 23:01 last night? Was looking forward to checking cams later tonight to watch some man made ahead of the natural stuff tomorrow.

The pic with grandpicininy in the foreground shows Normo's magic carpets in the background. Is that the height of snow they need to build to make those carpets practical? They look to be a very long way off the ground!

It looks like the cable is on and stretched and the chairs are in the carpark. Assuming that top and bottom stations are functional getting the chairs on the cable is a day or two's work. They pull them off the other chairs every summer.
